Leptospirosis in Pregnancy: Know the Risk 🤰🦠

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can occur after exposure to water or soil contaminated with urine of infected animals, especially rats. During pregnancy, infection deserves prompt medical attention because it can cause serious illness in the mother and may also affect the pregnancy.

⚠️ Watch out for symptoms:
• Fever and chills
• Severe headache
• Muscle aches, especially calf and back pain
• Red eyes
• Nausea or vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Jaundice or yellowing of the skin/eyes
• Decreased urine or other signs of kidney involvement

🤰 If you are pregnant and develop fever or flu-like symptoms after floodwater or contaminated-water exposure, seek medical evaluation immediately. Early diagnosis and appropriate antibiotic treatment can reduce complications.

💧 Prevention matters: Avoid wading through potentially contaminated floodwater, wear protective footwear when exposure is unavoidable, and practice good hand and food hygiene.

Pregnant or not—don’t ignore persistent fever after floodwater exposure. Get checked early. ❤️
