THE GEN Z/ MILLENIAL MOMS AND THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA
As an OB, I was sought out for some advice about many things/querries from our preggy moms. Here's a few examples:
1. Dra., pwede magpa-tattoo?
2. Dra., pwede magpa-eye lash?
3. Dra., ok lang ba magpa-ultrasound na po Kasi may gender reveal kami?
4. Dra., pwede pa mag travel?
5. Dra., pwede mag pa 3/4 D ultrasound?
Not all, but some of these are the effect of too much social media in today's life . A reality.
- Magpapa-TATTOO? Though most of our tattoo artists are conducting it sterilewise, if done unsterile, it can transmit diseases such as HIV, hepatitis and many more. Some may cause hypersensitivity reaction, anxiety due to pain during tattooing may cause uterine contractions. Though some may not experience it, it's your choice but not my advice😅. Just make sure to have it done by professional tattoo artists.
EYELASH? Sure why not para maganda tayo sa picture pag nanganak . Just make sure may pera tayo pang anak, pang eyelash pa kaya? Pag kulang, ipunin mo na lang.
ULTRASOUND AND GENDER REVEAL? Ultrasound is best done at 5 months for gender identification. For me I always tell them to wait until 6 months for both gender identification and congenital anomaly scan if you are practical and frugal enough . If you have enough saving for both scans, do both!
GENDER REVEAL? Every moment of the way is special. If you have enough money, celebrate and splurge. Pero kung kulang, huwag na. Ipunin na lang or make it simple but memorable. Wag na mag photoshoot para lang may i-post sa social media. Pwede rin naman DIY. Kung hindi kaya, wag pilitin.
TRAVEL? Ok lang po basta wag lang po malapit sa kabuwanan at walang signs and symptoms like hilab at iba pang sakit. Iwasan ang sobrang mapagod and last of all HYDRATE! kailangan lang po humingi ng medical certificate sa OB ninyo.
3D/4D ULTRASOUND- like gender identification, ok lang naman basta may extra budget. Pero kung baby's health ang priority, its better request for a congenital anomaly scanning para may birds eye view ka ng kalagayan ng baby mo as early as 6 months. Eh doc paano kung may makitang problema? Kailangan close follow up at maging extra careful tayo at makakagawa tayo ng best or better management plan sayo at sa baby mo.
SAVE MONEY! Mas importante ang safe delivery. Hindi naman kailangan ang magastos na admission sa hospital. There are choices like ward rooms ( Aircon naman) and regular private rooms. Be practical. Make sure you and your baby are safe. The priority is both your safety.
Social media is a double edged sword. The comparisons of pseudoperfect pregnancy, anxiety due to body dissatisfaction, status symbol and medical misinformation are negative effects. However positive effects are social and community support, easy access to health information, especially if guided by medical educators, and early preparation and planning for a healthy, successful delivery.
