Does Reading in Dim Light Ruin Your Eyes?

Maraming naniniwala na nakakasira ng mata ang pagbabasa sa dim light, pero ang totoo, pansamantala lang ang epekto nito tulad ng eye strain at pagod ng mata.

1. Sa dim light, mas pinipilit ng mata ang mga muscles para mag-focus kaya nakakaramdam tayo ng pagod at pananakit ng ulo.

2. Hindi ito permanenteng damage, kaya kapag nagpahinga ka o lumipat sa maliwanag na lugar, gumagaling agad ang mata mo.

3. Para maiwasan ang eye strain, siguraduhing may sapat na ilaw kapag nagbabasa o nagtatrabaho.

Kaya next time, iwasan ang sobrang dilim pero huwag mag-alala, hindi ito permanenteng problema!

Ang glaucoma ay isang kondisyon sa mata na maaaring magdulot ng permanenteng pagkabulag kung hindi maagapan. Isa itong progresibong sakit na nagdudulot ng pinsala sa optic nerve, na responsable sa pagpapadala ng visual information mula sa mata papunta sa utak.

Bakit ito mapanganib?

1. Walang sintomas sa simula.
2. Irreversible ang vision loss. Kapag nasira na ang optic nerve, hindi na ito maibabalik.
3. Pangalawang sanhi ng pagkabulag sa buong mundo. Ayon sa World Health Organization, ang glaucoma ang ikalawang nangungunang sanhi ng pagkabulag sa buong mundo

Halos lahat ng mga sanggol ay ipinapanganak na may blue o gray na mata dahil mababa pa ang melanin (pigment) sa kanilang iris. Habang lumalaki sila, ang melanin ay unti-unting nade-develop, lalo na kapag na-e-expose sa liwanag. Kaya naman, ang kulay ng kanilang mata ay maaaring magbago sa unang taon ng kanilang buhay.

Ang resulta? Ang kanilang mata ay maaaring maging brown, green, hazel, o mas malalim na blue depende sa genetics at melanin production.

Ang pagbabago ng kulay ng mata ng mga sanggol ay isa sa mga kamangha-manghang bahagi ng kanilang paglaki!

Alam niyo ba na ang diabetes ay maaaring matukoy sa pamamagitan ng isang eye examination? 👁️👨‍⚕️ Dahil ang diabetes ay nakakaapekto sa maliliit na blood vessels sa buong katawan, kabilang na ang mga mata, maaaring makita ng mga doktor ang mga maagang palatandaan nito bago pa man lumabas ang iba pang sintomas.

Sa isang dilated eye exam, sinusuri ng doktor ang retina upang makita ang mga pagbabago tulad ng pagtagas ng blood vessels, pamamaga, o maliliit na hemorrhages—mga indikasyon ng diabetes. Kaya’t mahalaga ang regular na eye check-up, lalo na kung may risk ka sa diabetes o may family history nito.

Huwag balewalain ang kalusugan ng iyong mga mata! Ang maagang pagtuklas ng diabetes ay makakatulong upang maiwasan ang mas malalang komplikasyon tulad ng diabetic retinopathy, na maaaring magdulot ng pagkawala ng paningin o pagka-bulag.
