Have you ever felt eye itching‼️⁉️redness‼️⁉️And tearing lately‼️⁉️ well it maybe 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 ‼️‼️‼️
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 also known as “Pink Eye” refers to the inflammation of the conjunctival tissue, engorgement of the blood vessels, and ocular discharge — and is classified as acute or chronic (could be viral, bacterial and allergic). Usually spikes in summer season due to warm, humid weather, increased bacteria & viruses, and irritants like chlorine, saltwater, & sand.
Although they all cause red eye, viral, bacterial, and allergic conjunctivitis have very different characteristics and recognizing these signs makes all the difference in management.
𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧:
✔️Swimming Pool Contamination: Poorly maintained pool water can spread bacteria and viruses, while chlorine can irritate the eyes.
✔️Increased Outdoor Activity: Exposure to dust, sand, and pollen increases the risk of allergic or irritant conjunctivitis.
✔️Heat and Humidity: Warm environments allow bacteria and viruses to thrive more efficiently
Early diagnosis and treatment will help prevent the condition from becoming worse, and avoiding allergy triggers as much as possible , with frequent hand washing and keeping hands away from eyes can help a lot with the prevention.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬:
✔️Wear Swimming Goggles: Protects eyes from chemicals in pools and bacterias in lakes & oceans.
✔️Practice Good Hygiene: Wash hands frequently to avoid spreading germs, especially after being in public places.
✔️Avoid Sharing Personal Items: Do not share towels, sunglasses, or makeup and contact lenses.
✔️Use Sunglasses: Protection against dust, wind and other foreign particles.
