“Doc, akong anak dili gyud mo open up nako.”

Common report a parent tells me. This might be because, a ‘trusting relationship’ has not been made with the child growing up. Sadly, it is not ‘automatic’ or implied that if we are the parent, our teen opens up to us about his/her struggles. 😔

However, relationships can be built and restored overtime!

Learn with me (I am a parent too)! Sharing these research based parenting habits to help us develop a loving relationship with our children, so that when they are old enough to share their thoughts, they will NATURALLY open up to us.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒Quiet Parenting Habits That Help Shape a Child for Future Success (in Life) ✨

1. Listen before you speak – When children feel heard, they develop confidence and trust in their own voice.

2. Regulate your emotions – Staying calm teaches children how to manage their own emotions; they mirror what they see.

3. Connect before you correct – A child is more open to guidance when they feel valued and understood.

4. Give responsibility early – Allow mistakes and involve them in chores; responsibility builds competence and accountability.

5. Be present, not just provide– Children need your time and attention more than material gifts.

6. Praise effort, not just outcomes – This nurtures perseverance, resilience, and a growth mindset.

7. Guide rather than control – Allow them to make mistakes safely! We will not be around forever, our goal should be to prepare them to be on their own.

Let me know your thoughts and other tips you’d like to share with me 🙂

A statement from American Academy of Pediatrics President, Dr. Susan J. Kressly:

The decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to downgrade its recommendations to protect infants from hepatitis B is a dangerous move that will harm children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend routine hepatitis B vaccination for all newborns: All babies should receive a first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth, a second dose at one to two months, and a third dose at six months. The pacing of these doses has been rigorously tested and proven to be safe and effective over several decades.

Vaccinating all newborns against hepatitis B effectively prevents transmission of the virus to newborns during childbirth, supports them to build immunity against potential childhood infections, and ensures long-term protection into adulthood from a virus that can cause serious liver disease and liver cancer. Infants and children can be exposed to this virus by close caregivers who may not know they are infected. Delaying the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine has no clear benefits and leaves children vulnerable to infection.

The hepatitis B birth dose has been crucial in ensuring infants and children are protected from lifelong disease as a result of hepatitis B infection, as many people with hepatitis B don’t know they have it.

Eliminating the birth dose recommendation would have devastating impacts for children, making them more vulnerable to liver disease, cancer and even death if they contract the disease.

The new school year is just around the corner, and so is flu season. Before your kids head back to the classroom, make sure the flu vaccine is at the top of your back-to-school checklist.

The flu vaccine is the best defense to keep your child healthy, safe, and learning all year long. The AAP recommends annual childhood flu vaccination starting at 6 months of age. Talk with your pediatrician or visit our website for more information.

Keeping track of your child’s developmental milestones may seem like a lot, but CDC’s Milestone Tracker app makes it easy and fun! The app uses interactive checklists to help track your child’s milestones from 2-months to 5-years. Download the app to get started.
