You might be seeing Nipah virus mentioned again. This is because the World Health Organization (WHO) recently reported confirmed Nipah virus cases in West Bengal, India. While these events are happening outside the Philippines, they remind us that infections passed from animals to humans can still surface from time to time.
The Philippines has had Nipah cases in the past, but there are no active cases locally at present. We’re sharing this to help everyone understand what Nipah virus is, how it spreads, and how infection can be prevented because awareness is one of the simplest ways we protect ourselves, our families, and our healthcare workers.
