Violence against women and children is rampant nowadays.
With the rapid social change and various influences, all sorts of violence or coercion against the vulnerable is prevalent, massively heightened due to digital and Ai era.
Some horrendous cases of abuses, violence, and harassment are unimaginable leaving the victim entangled within the loop continuous suffering.
Imagine a child from 0-17yrs old being the victim of r**e, pornographic hostage, child trafficking, etc.
With the efforts of our Government to address this growing concern, the Department of health has institutionalised the Women and Children Protection Unit (WCPU) to protect the victims of any form of violence especially for women and children. This unit is composed of health professionals like social health workers, medical doctors, and psychologists to assess, evaluate, and diagnose the case and medical condition of the victims.
The VAWC 4R strategy is a foundational framework used by healthcare workers, law enforcement, and community responders to effectively manage cases of violence against women and children.
It outlines a four-step intervention process:
👉Recognize the physical, psychological, or behavioral signs of abuse;
👉Record detailed, objective medical and factual findings accurately for legal and clinical documentation;
👉Report the incident to the proper legal authorities or protection units; and
👉Refer the survivor to appropriate multidisciplinary support services, including social work, medical care, legal aid, and psychological counseling.
Through this strategy, we ensure that every survivor is supported, compassionate care is provided, and their safety is prioritized.
So, let's help end the era of violent dominance and allow emphaty and compassion among the vulnerable. We can empower people via information-building and availment of the social-legal-administrative services nearby.
