EXPERTS URGE CAUTION ON ANTIDEPRESSANTS AND SU***DE CLAIMS

LOOK: The Philippine Psychiatric Association (PPA) released a statement on Tuesday, Dec. 30, stressing that linking antidepressant use to suicidal behavior without verified medical evidence is medically unsound.

The PPA emphasized that depression and suicidal behavior are complex and multifactorial, influenced by biological, psychological, social, and spiritual factors. While antidepressants remain a key treatment, they are most effective when combined with psychotherapy, lifestyle interventions, and community support.

“To publicly single out antidepressants as a causal factor—absent proof of diagnosis, treatment details, or clinical course—is medically unsound and irresponsible,” the PPA said.

The association also called for responsible journalism and ethical public discourse to prevent misinformation and stigma around mental health. | Philippine Psychiatric Association Inc. (PPA) / FB via Ian Peter Guanzon

With deepest sadness, the Philippine Red Cross announces the passing of Governor Rosa Rosal.

For over 7 decades, Gov. Rosal devoted her life to the service of the Red Cross. She championed voluntary blood donation across the country, strengthened PRC’s welfare services, and used every platform she had to promote compassion, volunteerism, and the protection of the most vulnerable.

Gov. Rosal leaves behind a legacy of genuine service, dignity, and love for humanity, a legacy that will continue to guide the Philippine Red Cross and inspire generations of volunteers.

Details of the wake will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.
