I hope we've all experienced this: a day out with the day ones. Joy ride to the beach, music blaring, everyone singing the lyrics, reminiscing about the memories they brought with them. Hiking the trails, legs shaking from the strain, helping each other rise to the destination that one guy said we'd reach two hours ago.

Yes, you're tired at the end of it all. But it's a different kind, one which you'll gladly feel tomorrow. It's the type of tired that even shaking feet, burning skin, or hungover heads would risk, all to spend time with the people who matter. Because it isn't the place, or the activity, it's the crazy human beings we call friends and family.

Socializing is scientifically shown to improve your mood, reduce stress, increase resilience, and decrease depressive symptoms, to name a few of its benefits. Especially when you spend time with the right people and share the right conversations.

Maybe this is your sign to finally say yes to that trip with friends, or that day out with family you've always promised. Whatever the case may be, know you'll come out more emotionally energized than if you'd spent that time alone.

Holidays are a brief respite in our day-to-day grind. But are you using it properly?

Here are a few things to remember to maximize your times of rest:
1. Spend your time intentionally.
Choose what you wish to do for the day before you pick up your phone.

2. Socialize.
Spending time with friends and family. Play board games, or catch up at a cafe or in a park. Being with the people we care about and love always boosts us up.

3. Do something with your hands.
Cook, paint, sculpt, draw, anything that stimulates the mind and your creativity. You don't need to be great at it; just the act of creation is already restful.

4. Exercise.
Taking a quick stroll or jog actually has an energizing effect on the body.

5. Lastly, rest when you have energy.
This goes beyond rest days. Most of us only rest when we feel tired; this shouldn't be the case! Allocate time for restful activities to give them more meaning and impact.

Claim it now: today is gonna be your day of rest, and make sure you truly do end up refreshed and energized!

The Dunning-Kruger Effect is a great example of how our own ego can lead to our downfall.

I've been trying to learn 日本語 (Japanese) for almost two years now through Duolingo. I already knew the language was hard at the get-go because I needed to learn not just the language, but the way of writing (Katakana, Hiragana, and Kanji). You need both to actually read, write, and speak.

To tell you the truth, after one year of learning, I thought my Japanese was miles better compared to when I started. My confidence went up, and I was foaming at the mouth, excited to speak with our Japanese guests. And then reality hit me like a Japanese-isekai-truck.

They couldn't understand me, worse yet, I realized my Japanese was as broken as my spirit. Listening to the real thing gave me pause, an eye-opener to what it means to speak REAL Japanese, and I was miles away from it.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is when a person feels more confident when they have less knowledge and skills about a certain area or field. In my case, I was so focused on my progress in Duolingo that I forgot to compare it to the real thing. I thought progress meant knowledge.

This explains why the first villains in those shows or movies are so overconfident about themselves: flexing and showing their skills, but when they meet the real deal, they end up getting smacked around like a practice dummy.

The opposite is also true; the more you know about things, the simpler it feels to you, so you think anyone can learn it, deflating your ego. For me, just knowing that there is still so much to know humbles you. You're far from good.

In life, we sometimes think we've climbed the top of the mountain. The peaks we've reached are already the highest. All the while, never seeing the next higher mountain over. Keep yourself humble, and keep looking forward. You may not be good yet, but because you're human, you have the unlimited capacity to keep growing and learning.

It's on to the next mountain.
