"YOUnifying for Mental Health and Well-being"

Project LIWANAG gathered 50 in-school youth leaders from various academic institutions in Cotabato City particularly from Cotabato State University, STI College of Cotabato, Notre Dame University, and Coland Systems Technology, Inc. last November 30 to December 01, 2022 at Cotabato City. The three-day activity focused on the importance of mental health and its issues, adolescent and youth reproductive health rights, and responsible parenthood and family planning.

The activity has been conducted in a hybrid learning mode in which some speakers are connected via zoom platform and others are in-person. During the last day of the activity, the participants contributed ideas in support for the creation of the resolution headed by BYC Maguindanao with Cotabato City & SGA— “A RESOLUTION URGING THE CITY GOVERNMENT OF COTABATO THROUGH THE CITY HEALTH OFFICE TO MAINSTREAM PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND PROJECTS RELATED TO OR IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REPUBLIC ACT 11036 ALSO KNOWN AS THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT OF THE PHILIPPINES”.

The YSEALI Maguindanao-Cotabato Hub coordinator also shared about additional information of YSEALI and opportunities that it can offer to the young people.

Congratulations to the Participants of the Project LIWANAG for this milestone!

Kabataang Bangsamoro, handa ka na ba?

Project LIWANAG is a follow-on project of the YSEALI Regional Workshop on Mental Wellness for the Reduction of Narcotics Use fellows in the Philippines that aims to give light to the youth about mental health and mental health issues so that they can effectively help themselves and others. “Liwanag” is a Filipino term that means “light”, which symbolizes “awareness”.

Co-presented by the Bangsamoro Youth Commission, this initiative is supported and funded by the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative through the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Rangoon, in partnership with the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) and Mahidol University in Thailand. The project is in-lined with the 9th anniversary of YSEALI, commonly known as YOUnified, which is celebrated every December of the year.

This project will convene 50 in-school youth leaders from Cotabato State University, STI College Cotabato, Notre Dame University, and Coland Systems Technology, Inc.

By raising awareness, mental illness can now be seen like any illness which can be managed by treatment. Mentally healthy people tend to be resilient and bullet proof from dangerous drugs. See you on November 30 to December 2, 2022 at Robinsons Hall 2, Cotabato City!
