𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁: 𝗖𝗥𝗠𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗛𝗢-𝗖𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗙𝗠𝗗 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆

Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), in partnership with Cotabato City Health Office (CHO), held a Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) Awareness Activity on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the RH4 Barangay Covered Court.

The event aimed to equip parents and healthcare workers from Cluster 6 barangays, including Poblacion IX, Rosary Height III, Rosary Height IV, and Rosary Height V with essential knowledge to prevent HFMD transmission among children.

The program opened with a prayer led by a Headstart student, followed by a welcome address from Chairwoman Mojahida Salendab Omar-Abrasado. After an intermission performance by the Headstart students, Dr. Lady Vanessa Balucas and Dr. Isolde Mayo then led a comprehensive health education session about HFMD.

To boost community participation, attendees actively engaged in a Q&A session and received tokens of appreciation. The event concluded with closing remarks from Fatima Dumama, RN. This initiative highlights the ongoing commitment of both CRMC and CHO-Cotabato to curb the spread of HFMD and safeguard the health and well-being of young children in the city.

The Anti-Smoking Program of the Cotabato City Health Office held a school-based advocacy on the City Ordinance No. 5199, Series of 2025, on August 5, 2026, at Darping Elementary School, Brgy. Kalanganan I, Cotabato City.

Being the Anti-Smoking Program Manager, Hja. Imraida Ibad-Malang, RN, emphasized during the activity that the youth are the usual victims who fall into the trap of smoking and va**ng due to the influence of their environment. “Kayo ang palaging nauutusan ng mga nakatatanda na bumili ng sigarilyo sa mga tindahan. Kapag inutusan kayo, huwag kayong papayag,” the program manager told the abovementioned school’s Grade 4 to 6 students. She had also discussed the consequences that the elders and minors could face if they were caught smoking and va**ng in public places.

According to City Ordinance No. 5199, Series of 2025, it is not permissible and is punishable by law to smoke and v**e in public areas such as schools, public terminals, public utility vehicles, places of worship, hospitals, etc. within the jurisdiction of Cotabato City. Cotabato City had been officially acclaimed as a Red Orchid Awardee by the Department of Health in 2025.

Also present during the activity were Dangerous Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program Manager Joannah Ruffa B. Mangelen, RN, Non-Communicable Diseases Program Manager Anjelie Lomondaya, RN, and Family Planning Program Manager Mary Rose Michelle Wong, RN.

The City Health Office (CHO) of Cotabato successfully implemented the Family Planning Kick-Off Ceremony at the MB Kalanganan Barangay Covered Court on August 2, 2026. The event gathered local residents to promote reproductive health awareness, modern family planning, and healthy lifestyle choices. The ceremony began with an opening prayer led by HEPU staff Mangi Salik, followed by a welcome address by Barangay Kagawad Michael Ayunan.

The activity featured comprehensive health education by Health Education and Promotion Officer III Veronica Franco-Jumuad, RM, RN, BCHS, advocated for the 7 Healthy Habits, while Anti-Smoking Program Manager, Hja. Imraida Ibad-Malang, RN, conducted a session on anti-smoking.

The Regional Family Planning Program Coordinator of MOH-BARMM, Isnihaya B. Baguinda, RN, MPA, also graced the event and highlighted the region's support for smarter Bangsamoro families. Meanwhile, as the CHO-Cotabato's Family Planning Program Coordinator, Mary Rose Michelle S. Wong, RN, detailed key family planning methods and services.

To ensure community engagement, participants interacted directly with health professionals during a Q&A session and received tokens of appreciation. The program concluded with closing remarks from FHSIS Coordinator Stephen Henry L. Chin, RN, MAN.

This joint effort between local officials, CHO-Cotabato, and MOH-BARMM reaffirms the city's commitment to building well-informed, healthier families.

The Cotabato Regional Medical Center, together with the City Health Office of Cotabato, successfully celebrated Diabetes Awareness Week 2026 on July 27, 2026, at the Brgy. Poblacion IV, Barangay Covered Court, Cotabato City, with residents from Cluster 3 barangays participating in the event.

The program began with an opening prayer by Mangi Salik, followed by a welcome message from Dr. Sheila Farisha K. Mangelen, MD, FPCP, FPCEDM, Endocrinologist and Chair of the Diabetes Mellitus Program. Messages of support were also delivered by CHO GAD Coordinator Masnah M. Ali, RN.

Dr. Mangelen led an informative lecture on "Hawak Kamay Nating Tugunan ang Hamon ng Diabetes." Meanwhile, Risha A. Calub, RND, discussed “Nutrition Management: Early Action on Diabetes”, reminding participants that, "Ang pinakamabisang gamot laban sa diabetes ay ang maagang pagkilos at tamang pamumuhay. Ang bawat masustansyang pagkain at bawat hakbang na iyong ginagawa ngayon ay isang puhunan para sa mas malusog na bukas."

The event also featured free health consultations, dietary counselling, FBS, uric acid, cholesterol testing, and creatinine extraction, providing participants with essential health services for early detection and proper diabetes management.

The activity reflects the continued commitment of CRMC and CHO-Cotabato to promoting health education, preventive care, and accessible healthcare services for a healthier and diabetes-aware community.

The CHO-Cotabato extends its gratitude to the CRMC for this meaningful health initiative that brought health services closer to Cotabateños.

COTABATO CITY — The City Health Office of Cotabato, in collaboration with the DKT Philippines Foundation, successfully conducted a Family Planning Outreach Program on July 21, 2026, at the Poblacion 4 Covered Court.

The program opened with remarks from CHO-GAD Coordinator Masnah M. Ali, RN, followed by messages of support from DKT Philippines Foundation Program Director Loida Almendare and Program Manager Alaudin S. Masabpi, RN.

At the core of the program was an intensive advocacy session led by Family Planning Program Coordinator Mary Rose Michelle S. Wong, RN, who highlighted the lifelong benefits of informed family planning choices for the family.

Meanwhile, a health education session on different family planning methods and the Qur'an verses and Hadiths supporting birth spacing was also conducted by Health Education and Promotion Officer III Veronica Franco Jumuad, RM, RN, BHCS.

The successful event concluded with the closing remarks from Cluster III Supervisor Joannah Ruffa B. Mangelen, RN.

The initiative underscores the local government's ongoing commitment to bringing accessible, educational, and empowering healthcare solutions straight to the community.
