CRMC Toxicology Unit and Above 60 Academy Conduct Senior Wellness and Poison Prevention Forum

The Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) Toxicology Unit, in collaboration with the Crmc Fammed Department – Geriatric Health Care Program Unit (Above 60 Academy) and MOH-BARMM Poison Prevention Program, conducted today the health education forum entitled "Gastrointestinal System as We Age” and “Common Household Poisons: A Guide to Safe Senior Living" at the CRMC Grand Auditorium.

The activity gathered senior citizens and community members for an afternoon of learning focused on promoting healthy aging and preventing common household poisoning incidents among older adults.

The lecture proper featured informative discussions by Dr. JB G. Requita and Dr. Bai Klenschey S. Ampatuan, Family Medicine Residents, who shared practical information on age-related gastrointestinal changes and strategies for preventing accidental poisoning in the home. Participants were encouraged to practice safe medication use, proper storage of household chemicals, and immediate recognition of poisoning emergencies.

An interactive Question-and-Answer Session followed, led by Dr. Cheridine P. Oro-Josef, Geriatric Medicine Specialist and Dr. Ronette C. Romanes, Toxicology Unit Medical Coordinator, allowing participants to clarify concerns regarding senior health and poison prevention.

The activity forms part of CRMC Toxicology Unit's continuing commitment to health promotion and the observance of National Poison Prevention Week 2026, emphasizing that poisoning is preventable through awareness, education, and safe practices at home. By empowering senior citizens with essential health knowledge, CRMC continues to strengthen its advocacy for safer and healthier communities. 💯

CRMC Toxicology Team Conducts Poison Prevention Lay Forum

In line with the upcoming celebration of the National Poison Prevention Week, the CRMC Toxicology Team, in collaboration with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, conducted a Poison Prevention Lay Forum on June 18, 2026, at the Out-Patient BUCAS Department of Cotabato Regional and Medical Center.

The activity gathered patients and their watchers who actively participated in the face-to-face lecture-discussion aimed at increasing public awareness on poison prevention, recognition of poisoning emergencies, and appropriate first-aid measures.

Dr. Eric Irvin Petilo, Toxicology Unit rotator from Famed Department served as the resource speaker, providing practical and evidence-based information on common household poisons, safe storage of chemicals and medications, and steps to take in case of accidental poisoning.

The forum highlighted the importance of community education in preventing poisoning incidents and promoting a safer home environment. Participants were encouraged to share the knowledge gained with their families and communities to help reduce the risk of poisoning, especially among children and vulnerable populations.

This activity forms part of the toxicology unit's continuing commitment to health promotion and poison prevention through community engagement and public education. 🫶

CRMC Strengthens Frontline Capacity Through Regional Poisoning Management Training

The Cotabato Regional and Medical Center – Toxicology Unit, in partnership with the Bangsamoro Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Southern Philippines Medical Center SPMC Advanced Toxicology Specialty Center, conducted a Training Workshop on the Recognition, Diagnosis, Initial Management and Referral of Poisoning and Snakebite Cases on April 14, 2026 at Datu Kutob Ampatuan Auditorium, Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur.

The activity gathered RHU midwives, nurses, and doctors from Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, as well as healthcare professionals from various hospitals, strengthening a unified approach to poisoning management across different levels of care.

Through a comprehensive program of expert-led lectures and interactive discussions, we enhanced participants’ knowledge in toxicology services, clinical evaluation and toxidromes, decontamination procedures, dose computation, and poison prevention in home and workplace settings.

The training also featured hands-on workshops on snakebite care, telephone referral, preparation of activated charcoal and soap suds e***a, and pressure bandage immobilization—providing participants with practical skills essential in managing poisoning emergencies.

This initiative reflects our continued commitment to strengthening the capacity of healthcare providers, fostering collaboration among institutions, and improving patient outcomes across the region. 💯
