Activity: TACTING – SENTENCE EXPANSION (NOUN + LINKING VERB + VERB)
Goal: To expand expressive language by producing simple three -word sentences using the sentence patter noun + linking verb + verb
The therapist introduced sentence expansion using the sentence pattern noun + linking verb + verb with the support of visual prompts. A picture of a boy and the word “is” were first presented followed by action pictures representing the target verbs drinking water, reading a book, and kicking a ball.
The learner initially required visual and gestural prompts to describe each action. Prompts were systematically faded until the learner independently produced the complete sentence for each target verb.
After mastering one action, additional verbs were introduced one at a time. By the end of the activity, the learner was able to independently describe all three target actions using the correct sentence structure.
PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITY:
To develop expressive language and expanding the learner’s ability to produce grammatically correct sentences using the Noun + Linking Verb + Verb sentence structure. The activity also aims to strengthen action labeling (Tacting Verbs), increase sentence length, improve syntactic skills, and promote independent sentence production through systematic prompt fading.
