Magandang Araw Mga Kababayan.
I have always believed that public service is a privilege, not a permanent station to which one is entitled to. There comes a time when one must recognize that serving well also means knowing when to step aside and that it is wrong, even selfish, to cling to a position.
That time has come for me.
For personal reasons, chief among them my health and my family, I formally tendered my resignation from Congress. These are not small things. They are, in truth, the most important things, and they deserve my full attention.
I leave with full confidence that the advocacies of the party-list will not end with my departure. I trust that whoever takes my place will carry forward the same commitment that brought 1Tahanan to Congress in the first place.
To Elmer Catulpos, without whom I would not be here, I thank you. Its my hope that in my brief period of service, we were able to move our dream forward in the House.
To our supporters - those who believed in us from the very beginning, when we were 10th from the bottom - thank you. You made this possible. What we accomplished together is a testament to what ordinary people can do when they refuse to give up.
To my staff, who worked tirelessly and with so much heart, thank you.
I hope that in these less than 10 months, we were able to show that it is possible for an ordinary person to serve and to lead with integrity. That public office does not require extraordinary connections or extraordinary wealth, only extraordinary dedication.
It has been the honor of my life.
Mabuhay ang ordinaryong Pilipino. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
Lumalaban para sa mga Pilipino,
