On June 8, 2026, the lives of thousands of families in Glan, Sarangani Province changed in a matter of seconds. A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck without warning, leaving behind a trail of devastation that words can hardly describe.

Homes that once echoed with laughter and family conversations were reduced to piles of broken wood, concrete, and twisted metal. Small businesses that provided daily income disappeared overnight. Schools, churches, and community spaces suffered extensive damage. For many families, the earthquake did not only take away their homesβ€”it took away their sense of security, their livelihood, and for some, even their loved ones.

In the days that followed, countless residents slept under the open sky. Others found temporary shelter in tents, makeshift evacuation centers, or beside the ruins of the houses they once called home. Parents worried about where their children would sleep, what they would eat, and how they would begin rebuilding their lives. The pain was visible in every face, every tear, and every silent prayer whispered in the darkness.

Yet even in the midst of overwhelming loss, hope found its way to Glan.

The team from Operation Smile Philippines Cleft Center for Mindanao traveled to the affected communities not only to deliver much-needed donations but also to stand in solidarity with our volunteers and the families who were suffering. They came carrying relief goods, but more importantly, they came carrying compassion.

As aid was distributed, stories of heartbreak emerged. Elderly residents shared how they watched their homes collapse before their eyes. Mothers fought back tears as they recounted the terrifying moments they shielded their children during the shaking. Families spoke of loved ones they would never see again. Every story was a painful reminder of how fragile life can be.

But amid the destruction, there were also stories of courage. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers sharing the little food and water they had left. Volunteers tirelessly working despite their own losses. Communities coming together, proving that even when buildings fall, the human spirit remains unbroken.

The earthquake may have shattered homes and changed lives forever, but it could not destroy the strength, faith, and resilience of the people of Glan.

As we handed over donations and listened to the stories of survivors, we were reminded that recovery is not only about rebuilding housesβ€”it is about rebuilding hope. Every food pack given, every comforting embrace, every prayer offered, and every act of kindness became a message to the affected families: You are not alone.

The road to recovery will be long. The scars left by this tragedy will remain for years to come. But as long as people continue to help one another, there will always be hope rising from the ruins.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives. We pray for the families who continue to grieve. We stand with those who have lost everything. And together, we believe that Glan, Sarangani and all the places affected by this disaster will rise againβ€”stronger, united, and filled with hope for a better tomorrow. ❀️
