π’ The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a Magnitude 5.6 tectonic earthquake at 7:07 AM today, July 28, 2026. The epicenter was located off the coast of Baganga, Davao Oriental, at an estimated depth of 10 to 20 kilometers.
π’While the epicenter was in Davao Oriental, mild to moderate shaking was felt across surrounding areas in the Davao Region, including Davao City and nearby provinces.
π’We encourage everyone to stay informed through reliable and official sources such as PHIVOLCS and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), and to refrain from sharing unverified information that may cause confusion or unnecessary alarm.βΌοΈ
π’As advocates of safety and preparedness, the Sakya Red Cross Youth encourages the community to remain calm during emergencies, follow established safety protocols, and be ready to respond appropriately in the event of aftershocks or other related hazards.βοΈ

IN LIGHT OF POTENTIAL AFTERSHOCKS, THE PUBLIC IS REMINDED OF THE FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW DURING SEISMIC EVENTS βΌοΈ
πStep 1: Drop, Cover, and Hold.
πStep 2: Take cover under sturdy furniture or protect your head and neck.
πStep 3: Hold on until the shaking stops.
πStep 4: Proceed calmly to designated exit routes and assemble in open safe areas after the shaking stops. Make sure to walk faster than normal while evacuating.
πStep 5: Assess for injuries and perform a quick headcount. Report to the authorities if someone is missing or injured.
πStep 6: Wait for further instructions from authorized safety officers.
