Sound does not need to travel through the ear canal to reach the inner ear.
It can travel through bone.
This is how bone conduction works. Vibrations move through the bones of your skull straight to the
cochlea, bypassing the outer and middle ear entirely. It is the same reason your own voice sounds
different on a recording — you are missing the part that travels through your bones when you speak.
Bone conduction devices use this same principle. A small vibrating component sits behind the ear
and feeds sound directly into the inner ear. They can help people who cannot use traditional hearing
aids — chronic ear infections, blocked or absent ear canals, single-sided deafness.
If you have ever been told a regular hearing aid will not work for you, there may still be a path
forward.
Our hearing experts at Ear Diagnostics will walk you through every option that fits your situation.
