Small acts. Meaningful change. Lasting impact.

Last August 14, 2026, the Rotary Club of South Davao visited the NHA Phase 3 Child Development Center in Bangkal, Davao City, to turn over blackboards, storybooks, and cleaning materials.

The Child Development Center was affected by flooding and has been working to recover and rebuild. These may be simple things, but for teachers and young children, they can make a meaningful difference in creating a safe, clean, and inspiring place to learn.

For us, this is more than a donation. It is about restoring hope, supporting early childhood education, and creating an impact that can last beyond this one act of service.

A blackboard becomes a tool for teaching.
A storybook opens a world of imagination.
Cleaning materials help create a healthier learning environment.

We may not be able to help everyone, but we can always choose to help where we can.

Building a Better Space for Indigenous Learners

Last August 13, the Rotary Club of South Davao visited Gumalang National Elementary School to assess how we can support the school and its many Bagobo Klata learners.

During our visit, we saw an opportunity to transform a portion of the school library into an IP Education Area, a space where indigenous culture, history, stories, and learning materials can be preserved and celebrated.

At present, the IP Center occupies only a small space, practically half of a wall inside the library. We hope to help develop it into a more meaningful and engaging learning corner.

The school is seeking support for:

Books and reading materials
Bookshelves
Educational and cultural decor
Materials for the IP Education Area

The Rotary Club of South Davao is also planning a Book Drive for Gumalang National Elementary School. We welcome individuals, organizations, and partners who would like to contribute books, shelves, educational materials, or other resources.

Our visit was made even more memorable by a sumptuous lunch lovingly prepared and shared by one of our fellow Rotarians. It was a simple but meaningful gesture that added warmth to our fellowship and service.

Thank you to the teachers and school community for welcoming the Rotary Club of South Davao and for allowing us to see how we can make a meaningful difference.

Restoring Sight. Restoring Hope.

Today, August 11, 2026, the Rotary Club of South Davao continued its commitment to restoring the gift of sight through another Cataract Operation held at SDA Hospital, Bangkal, Davao City.

For a person living with cataracts, the ability to see clearly can mean regaining independence, returning to work, reconnecting with family, and enjoying life with greater confidence. What may seem like a simple medical procedure can create a profound change in a person’s life.

This meaningful initiative is made possible through the continued partnership and generosity of:

Growing Ideas. Growing Impact.

A productive afternoon of fellowship, learning, and service at the Rotary Club of South Davao’s 5th Regular Meeting, held on August 5, 2026, at the Pinnacle Hotel.

We were privileged to welcome Mr. John Carlos P. Yap, Environmentalist from Lakbai Tinabangay Volunteers, Inc., who shared his expertise on “Tree Planting Sustainability: Approaches and Best Practices.”

His message reminded us that planting a tree is only the beginning. True environmental stewardship means ensuring that every seedling receives the care, protection, and community commitment it needs to grow and create lasting impact.

The meeting also moved forward several important initiatives:

• Peace Monument Project – finalization and next steps
• Book Collection Drive – expanding opportunities for learning
• Phoenix PPI & National Library Partnership – strengthening collaboration
• Next Service Activity / School Visit – bringing Rotary service closer to the community

Every meeting is an opportunity to transform ideas into action.

As Rotarians, we continue to build partnerships, develop sustainable projects, and serve with purpose—because lasting change begins with people who are willing to act.

As we close Rotary Year 2025–2026, we look back with gratitude and pride on a journey filled with compassion, fellowship, and meaningful service under the leadership of President Sonja Garcia.
Together, we reached communities in need, restored hope through medical missions, supported education, protected our environment, empowered children, and strengthened partnerships that made every project possible. Every outreach, every volunteer hour, and every smile reminded us why Rotary exists—to serve others above self.
