Disconnections in the brain can happen when motor planning…

is delayed or fails. A child’s motor planning typically develops automatically so they don’t even realize they are using the skills.

However, when there are disconnections in the brain, motor planning may become very difficult for a child and could require a lot of concentration or thought.

Motor planning helps a child:

🦵Organize each movement of their body
🦵Execute the movement without falling, stumbling or crashing

It may surprise you to learn that motor planning directly impacts a child’s ability to learn in the classroom. Basic motor skills can help your child do the following:

🎒Copy notes
🎒Attend and focus in class
🎒Functional skills (zippers, buttons, belts, fastens)
🎒Write with one hand while supporting the paper with the opposite hand

Children who struggle to develop motor planning skills may be scared, hesitant or resistant to trying new activities or learn new skills in the classroom.
