This September 26, Aves Aromatherapy Learning Hub will join the celebration of the Philippine Creative Industries Month by exploring the intersection of art and aromatherapy.

Join us for a unique sensory awakening at
Hacienda Severa
*with hands-on distillation of aromatic young mango leaves with a Certified Aromatherapist,
*a grounding watercolor activity by Dr Carmela Isabel Caballero, and
*the opening of a solo exhibit by Mr. Gromyko Semper.

The Philippine Creative Industries Month is dedicated to recognizing and championing Filipino talent, artistry, and innovation. It acknowledges that creativity is not just a form of expression, but a major economic driver for the country.

Thank you so much to the Tourism Services and Information Office for visiting us!

We shared how Aves Aromatherapy is exploring ways to connect the plants in Hacienda Severa to agricultural landscape and family heritage through botanical distillation, locally formulated products, and hands-on learning experiences.

We also gave them samples of our Lemon Mint Burst Body Wash, Forest Mist Room Spray and Mango Shade Cooling Gel to try.

Each product features hydrosols distilled at Hacienda Severa from aromatic plants grown on the estate like bamboo, eucalyptus, and carabao mango.

Spend a slow, aromatic day with us at Hacienda Severa and experience bamboo in a completely different way.

We’ll begin in the Healing Garden, harvest bamboo leaves, experience hands-on distillation, and turn the fresh hydrosol into your own bamboo face mist. Along the way, we’ll make space to pause with guided reflection, a forest foot soak, and cooling aromatic towels.

Can the scent of nature help us feel better?

According to a 2025 systematic review published in npj Urban Sustainability, the answer is yes.

Researchers found that exposure to smells from nature, emitted from real natural sources, positively influences both psychological and physiological responses.Across the studies they reviewed, participants experienced:

• Lower stress levels
• Greater relaxation
• More positive emotions

This reminds us that inhaling the fragrance of a crushed eucalyptus leaf, freshly harvested lemon grass, flowers like ylang ylang and rosal, is more than just pleasant—it may be one of the ways nature supports our well-being.

We were seriously wondering why the first batch of eucalyptus hydrosol turned yellow green. Did the water have green sediments? Was it extracting green color from the plants?

I had to do some quick research over lunch and the issue was probably essential oil interaction (1,8 cineole feom the eucalyptus) condensing alongside copper ions from the still or copper corrosion traveling through the condenser which needed deep cleaning.

I consulted the book of Ann Harman on hydrosols and asked my assistant to wash the hat, swan neck, and coil of the copper still with 70% alcohol to remove any build up.

We decided to do a second round of distillation and fortunately, that one was Clear! The chartreuse looked so attractive though!
