What Is Adenoid Hypertrophy and Does It Need Surgery?

Adenoid hypertrophy is the enlargement of adenoid tissue at the back of the nose. It can cause:
🔹 Nasal congestion
🔹 Snoring
🔹 Mouth breathing
🔹 Recurrent ear infections

If symptoms are severe or persistent, adenoidectomy may be recommended.

When Is Tonsillectomy or Adenoidectomy Recommended in Kids?

These procedures may be advised if your child has:
✔️ Frequent throat infections
✔️ Breathing or swallowing problems
✔️ Sleep apnea due to enlarged tonsils/adenoids

Discuss with your ENT doctor if your child’s symptoms interfere with sleep, speech, or quality of life.

⚠️ Persistent sore throat or hoarseness
⚠️ Lumps/swelling in the neck or mouth
⚠️ Difficulty swallowing
⚠️ Non-healing mouth sores

If you notice these symptoms, get screened by an ENT specialist! 🩺

Midnight foreign body catch on a 9month old who ingested a thumbtack.
Children of all ages may ingest a FB, however the highest incidence is between the ages of 6 months and 3 years.
Parents should be vigilant about preventing foreign body ingestion in children, especially small objects like coins, batteries, and magnets.
