"When Heaven Is Silent but God Is Near"
For thirteen years, Joseph heard nothing from heaven.
At seventeen, he had seen visions of greatness. But the next sound he heard was the laughter of his brothers as they threw him into a pit. The dreamer cried, but the sky was silent. No thunder. No angel. No voice defending him.
Sold as a slave. Forgotten in a foreign land. Faithful in a master’s house. Then falsely accused. Shackled in prison.
And still—silence.
Have you ever prayed and felt like your words hit the ceiling? Joseph did too. For thirteen years, there is no recorded dream, no fresh promise, no explanation from God. Just ordinary days filled with unfairness.
But here is what changes the heart:
The Bible quietly repeats one line—“The Lord was with Joseph.”
God was with him in the pit. God was with him in slavery. God was with him in prison. Even when Joseph could not feel Him.
The silence was not rejection. It was preparation.
While Joseph thought he was forgotten, God was positioning him. While Joseph served in obscurity, God was shaping integrity. While Joseph waited in darkness, God was building a deliverer.
And when the time was right, in one single day, the prisoner stood before Pharaoh. The silent years suddenly made sense. The pain had purpose. The delay had design.
But here is the moment that truly changes the heart:
When Joseph finally faced the brothers who betrayed him, he did not seek revenge. He said, “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.”
Only a man who trusted God in silence can forgive like that.
Maybe you are in your “thirteen years.” Maybe heaven feels quiet. Maybe you are serving faithfully with no applause.
Take courage.
If God was with Joseph in the dark, He is with you too. Silence does not mean absence. Delay does not mean denial.
Sometimes the quietest seasons are when God is doing His deepest work in your soul.
