🦠 MYTH vs. FACT: Rabies Awareness

❌ MYTH: "There's no bleeding or visible wound, so I don't need a rabies vaccine."

✅ FACT: Even if a bite or scratch doesn't bleed or leave a noticeable wound, you should still seek medical care immediately. Rabies can be transmitted through bites, scratches, or when saliva from an infected animal comes into contact with broken skin or the eyes, nose, or mouth.

Don't rely on how the wound looks, rabies is almost always preventable with prompt treatment, but it is nearly always fatal once symptoms appear.

If you've been exposed to an animal that may have rabies, wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and running water, then visit the nearest DOH accredited Animal Bite Center or healthcare facility as soon as possible.

Many people believe that only dog bites and scratches require anti-rabies vaccination—but that's a dangerous misconception.

Cats can also transmit rabies. Whether you've been bitten or scratched by a dog or a cat, it's important to wash the wound immediately and seek medical evaluation as soon as possible. Early treatment can prevent rabies before it becomes life-threatening.

If you are bitten or scratched by a dog or a cat:
• Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes.
• Apply an antiseptic if available.

Rabies remains one of the deadliest diseases, but it is 100% preventable through vaccination. Pre-Exposure Anti-Rabies Vaccination (PrEP) provides protection before any potential contact with the rabies virus, making it especially important for individuals at higher risk of animal exposure.

Even if vaccinated:
