A milestone in patient care has just been achieved at Medicus Medical Center with the successful performance of a 𝗦𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝗯 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, a first for our institution. This life-changing procedure was done to treat a mandibular tumor, restoring not just the structure of the jaw but also the patient’s function, confidence, and quality of life.

How Is Chronic Cough Related to ENT Problems?

Not all coughs are lung-related! Chronic cough (lasting >8 weeks) may be linked to ENT issues such as:
🔸 Post-nasal drip
🔸 Allergies
🔸 Acid reflux (LPR)
🔸 Vocal cord irritation
🔸 Throat lumps or masses

What Is Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

It’s a Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) where a child’s breathing stops or becomes shallow due to blocked upper airway (often from large tonsils/adenoids).

Signs include loud snoring, restless sleep, daytime sleepiness, and poor attention in school.
Diagnostics include upper airway endoscopy and polysomnography (sleep study).

Treatment may involve tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy or CPAP therapy.

Mango sap ("tagok") dermatitis of the lips refers to an allergic reaction or skin irritation that occurs on the lips after coming into contact with the sap or peel of a mango fruit.
Symptoms of mango sap dermatitis of the lips may include redness, swelling, itching, and a rash on the lips.

👄Oral cancer, also known as mouth cancer, is a type of cancer that develops in the tissues of the mouth.
Risk factors for oral cancer include to***co and alcohol use, a family history of cancer, and certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection.
Symptoms may include persistent mouth sores, pain or swelling in the mouth, difficulty swallowing or chewing, changes in voice.
Treatment options for oral cancer depend on the stage and location of the tumor and may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these approaches.
Regular dental check-ups and oral cancer screenings can help detect the disease at an early stage.

Epistaxis, or nosebleed, is a common condition that usually stops on its own. However, it can be alarming and inconvenient, especially if it occurs in public or while at work or school. Knowing how to provide first aid for a nosebleed can help alleviate the situation.

Here are the steps for providing first aid for epistaxis:

1. Make the person lean forward to prevent them from swallowing blood. This can also help prevent blood from draining down the back of their throat, which can cause them to gag or vomit.

2. Pinch the nostrils together with your fingers. Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the soft part of the nose together, just below the bridge. Use gentle but firm pressure.

3. Breathe through the mouth. Encourage the person to breathe through their mouth while you're applying pressure to their nose. This can help prevent them from inhaling blood.

4. Maintain pressure for 10-15 minutes. Continue to apply pressure for at least 10-15 minutes, or until the bleeding stops. If the bleeding continues beyond 15 minutes, seek medical attention.

5. Apply a cold compress. Once the bleeding has stopped, apply a cold compress (such as a bag of ice or frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel) to the nose and forehead to reduce swelling and discomfort.

6. Avoid blowing the nose. Advise the person not to blow their nose for at least 24 hours after the bleeding has stopped, as this can cause the bleeding to start again.

If the person experiences frequent or significant nosebleeds, or has a medical condition that predisposes them to nosebleeds, they should seek medical attention.
