There are many questions—and sometimes fears—that can come with being prescribed psychiatric medication.⁣
⁣
"Will I become dependent?"⁣
"Will it change who I am?"⁣
"Do I really need it?"⁣
"What if I experience side effects?"⁣
⁣
These are valid questions.⁣
⁣
Psychiatric medication isn't a one-size-fits-all treatment. What works for one person may not work for another, and finding the right treatment can sometimes take time.⁣
⁣
The important thing is to have an open conversation with your prescribing professional. Ask questions. Share your concerns. Tell them about side effects. Your experience matters in determining whether a treatment is right for you.⁣
⁣
And remember: 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝. For some people, it is simply one tool among many that can support their mental health.⁣
⁣
At Niche Psych we have a psychiatrist in our team, as well as a psychologist and counsellor, working together to support holistic healing and overall wellbeing. This collaborative approach helps ensure that care is comprehensive and tailored to each person’s needs.⁣

Why do some of us lose interest the moment something becomes popular?⁣
⁣
Everyone suddenly plays pickleball—and you have no desire to pick up a racket. Matcha becomes the drink everyone is posting—and somehow, that makes you want coffee even more. A series takes over everyone's feed, every conversation, and every algorithm—and suddenly, you don't even want to watch it.⁣
⁣
It might not simply be being "kontrabida". One possible explanation is 𝐩𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜e—our tendency to resist when we feel that our freedom to choose is being limited or influenced by others.⁣
⁣
When something becomes extremely popular, it can sometimes stop feeling like a choice and start feeling like a social expectation: "Everyone is doing this. You should too". And something in us responds: "But I don't want to."⁣
⁣
For some people, this reaction can be particularly strong because 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 and 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 are important values. They want their choices to feel genuinely theirs, rather than something they adopted because everyone else did. We want our choices to feel self-directed rather than dictated by social pressure.⁣
⁣
The interesting part is that popularity can influence us in more ways than we realize. Sometimes it draws us toward something; other times, it creates a desire to distance ourselves from it. That doesn't necessarily mean we're being difficult or intentionally going against the crowd. It may simply reflect how strongly we value autonomy—the feeling that our choices are genuinely our own.⁣
⁣
And that's what makes everyday psychology so interesting: even something as simple as deciding whether to try matcha or watch a popular series can reveal something about how we experience ourselves in relation to other people.⁣

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐭?"⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Finding the right therapist is a lot like finding the right pair of shoes—you can appreciate the quality, but if it doesn't fit, it may not be the best choice for you.⁣⁣ A therapist may be highly skilled and experienced, yet still not be the right fit for your needs, personality, goals, or preferences. That's okay.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here are a few things to consider when looking for a therapist:⁣⁣
🌱 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡. Different therapists use different evidence-based approaches, such as CBT, ACT, Brainspotting, EMDR, or person-centered therapy. One approach may resonate with you more than another.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌱 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. Some people prefer a therapist who is more structured, while others value a conversational style. Some may also look for a therapist who understands their culture, faith, identity, or life experiences.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌱 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. Research shows that one of the predictors of successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client. Feeling heard, respected, and understood matters.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌱 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬. Are you looking to process trauma, manage anxiety, improve relationships, or better understand yourself? Different therapists may have different areas of expertise.⁣⁣
⁣
🌱 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐭. Therapy is most effective when it's sustainable. Consider factors such as your therapist's availability, session fees, schedule, language, online or in-person options, and location. Choosing a therapist you can consistently see helps create continuity and supports long-term progress.⁣
⁣⁣
If something doesn't feel right, it's okay to talk to your therapist about it. Sometimes a conversation can strengthen the therapeutic relationship. Other times, your therapist may even recommend another clinician who is better suited to your needs.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Seeking the right fit isn't being "too picky." It's giving yourself the best opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.⁣⁣

"𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭?". It's a question many siblings—and parents—have asked. The truth is, no two children grow up in exactly the same family.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Even if siblings share the same parents, home, and values, their experiences can be remarkably different. One may have been born when the family was struggling financially, while another arrived during a more stable season. One may remember a parent as strict, while another remembers the same parent as gentle years later. Even birth order, age gaps, family roles, personality, and life events can shape how each child experiences the same household.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Our inborn temperament also plays a role. A naturally sensitive child may respond differently to the same situation than a sibling who is more adaptable or outgoing. The environment may be shared, but each child interprets and responds to it in their own unique way.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬—𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. Different experiences can lead to different strengths, different struggles, and different ways of seeing the world. Understanding these differences doesn't mean assigning blame to parents or families. Instead, it reminds us that every person's story deserves to be understood in its own context.⁣⁣

Healing often begins with something simple yet powerful: feeling heard. Many people come to therapy carrying fear, uncertainty, or the expectation that they will be judged or misunderstood. Seeing our clients leave sessions feeling lighter, more hopeful, and more confident reminds us why this work matters.⁣
⁣
Every story shared, every step forward, and every kind word from our clients is a reminder that healing is possible when people are met with compassion, respect, and understanding.⁣
⁣⁣
Thank you as well to those who have taken the time to share your experiences. Your stories not only encourage us—they also give hope to others who may be wondering whether it's okay to ask for help.⁣ To see more reviews, visit https://nichepsych.com/v2/

Lately, many Filipinos have been carrying more than just their personal struggles. If you've found yourself feeling more anxious after reading the news, more emotionally drained after scrolling through social media, or more overwhelmed by conversations about our country's future—you are not imagining it. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is shaped not only by our relationships and personal experiences, but also by the communities we live in, the opportunities available to us, the systems we rely on, and the events unfolding around us. 𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯. News of conflict, disasters, economic uncertainty, violence, discrimination, social division, or other significant events can leave many people feeling anxious, angry, helpless, exhausted, or overwhelmed.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Let's continue caring for our communities, while also caring for ourselves and one another. 𝐁𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥—𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥.⁣⁣⁣ 𝐀 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.⁣⁣⁣⁣

Have you ever left a therapy session thinking...⁣
"𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘐'𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵."⁣
"𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩."⁣

If you have, you're not alone.⁣
⁣
Many people worry that speaking up might disappoint their therapist or make them seem "uncooperative." But therapy isn't about getting everything right—𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟.⁣
⁣
Your therapist wants to know how you're experiencing the process. Sometimes you may need to slow down. Sometimes you may need a different approach. Sometimes you may simply need more time. All of these are okay.⁣
⁣
𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞.⁣
⁣
Your thoughts, feelings, and feedback are valuable. Sharing them doesn't mean you're resisting the process—it helps your therapist better understand what you need and how to support you.⁣
⁣
You don't have to force yourself through healing.⁣

Many of us spend years trying to fit expectations, meet standards, or become who we think we should be. But perhaps one of life's greatest achievements is something much simpler—and much harder: becoming who you truly are.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Growth isn't about becoming someone else. It's about uncovering the person you've always been.⁣⁣
