𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 | Southland College President Calls for Fair Review of 42 Affected KCEAP Scholars

Southland College President Dr. Juan Antonio Villaluz has called for a careful review of the cases involving 42 KCEAP scholars whose scholarship assistance was reportedly affected following the implementation of guidelines concerning multiple government-funded scholarships.

In his public statement, Dr. Villaluz acknowledged the need to observe existing scholarship policies while emphasizing the importance of considering the individual circumstances of the students involved. “We respect the policies governing scholarship programs, but we also hope that the circumstances of each student will be carefully considered. What matters most is that we find a fair and constructive way forward that allows our students to continue pursuing their education,” he said.

The situation arose from the implementation of scholarship guidelines that address the simultaneous receipt of multiple government-funded scholarships. Following the application of these provisions, 42 Southland College students under the KCEAP program were reportedly removed from the list of beneficiaries.

Dr. Villaluz expressed confidence in the concerned agencies’ processes and encouraged continued communication among the students, the college, and the appropriate authorities. He stressed that resolving the matter through dialogue and proper review would help ensure that policies are implemented fairly while giving due consideration to the educational circumstances of the affected scholars.

Southland College remains committed to assisting the affected students within existing policies and procedures and will continue to monitor official developments. The college likewise encourages students and stakeholders to rely on verified announcements from the appropriate authorities as discussions and reviews regarding the matter continue.

Southland College proudly celebrates another milestone in leadership and service as our College President, Dr. Juan Antonio Z. Villaluz, officially leads the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) as its President for Season 46.

In his keynote address, Dr. Villaluz reminded educators that while academic excellence remains essential, schools must also prioritize the safety, well-being, mental health, and dignity of every learner.

“No report card should ever become a death sentence. No child should ever believe that failing a subject means failing in life.”

His message reflects the values we strive to uphold at Southland College that education is not only about producing academically excellent students, but about forming compassionate, resilient, and principled individuals prepared to lead with character.

We are proud that the vision guiding NOPSSCEA’s 50 member schools is being led by a Southlander.
