🌟 Gaviscon Double Action is an over-the-counter medication formulated to provide simultaneous relief from heartburn and acid indigestion. It utilizes a "double action" mechanism to quickly neutralize stomach acid while physically blocking acid reflux.
How It WorksThe formula contains three active ingredients that function in two distinct ways:
Neutralizes Excess Acid: Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate act as rapid antacids, neutralizing stomach acid on contact to alleviate the burning pain of indigestion.
Blocks Acid Reflux: Sodium alginate (derived from seaweed) reacts with stomach acid to form a thick, protective gel barrier (called a raft) that floats on top of the stomach contents. This physically blocks acid, pepsin, and bile from escaping up into the food pipe.
Primary Uses
Heartburn: Alleviates the painful, burning sensation felt in the chest and throat caused by acid reflux.
Acid Indigestion: Relieves upper abdominal pain, sour stomach, and general discomfort caused by hyperacidity.
Acid Regurgitation: Prevents stomach acid and bitter fluids from rising back up into the mouth.
Pregnancy-Related Reflux: Safe for managing hormonal or physical pressure-induced reflux during pregnancy (though speaking to a doctor first is always advised).
