The Security Services Office (SSO) led this weekโs flag-raising ceremony.
Following the ceremony, College of Social Sciences Faculty Member Kristine Baniqued - Dela Cruz gave a message on service in observance of National Flag Day. She emphasized that the Philippine flag is a sacred symbol of historical struggles fought by our ancestors. After her speech, Baniqued - Dela Cruz challenged Benguet State University (BSU) constituents with a question.
โPaano ako nagsisilbing instrumento ng kalayaan at kapayapaan sa aking pamilya, pook ng pinagtrabahuan at lipunan? Alin sa aking mga gawain at proyekto sa pagsisilbi sa BSU ang nagbibigay-buhay sa aking kapwa at institusyon?" she asked. Ruth D. Lalio of the Office of the VP for Administration and Finance (OVPAF) then facilitated a trivia game with tokens for correct answers.
Next, SSO Director Odelon C. Dulay recognized Security Guards: Arlene Ogoy, Dwight Domingues, Jerome Dulay, and Jonathan Velasco for their quick responce in resolving a fire incident that happened at the Gladiola Building premises. He likewise reminded building managers and employees to strictly observe fire safety measures.
An oath-taking ceremony of newly hired and promoted employees was later officiated University President Kenneth A. Laruan.
University Business Affairs Executive Assistant Charmie Ann C. Ferreria announced the deadline for the Sariling Sikap program application to be extended until June 4, 2026 and invited interested BSU constituents to apply.
Moreover, VP for Research and Extension Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres reminded BSU constituents of the schedule for the 10th University Student Research Congress on June 3-4, 2026 at the Research and Extension Building, Agri-based Technology Business Incubator/Innovation Center, and the Northern Philippine Root Crops Research and Training Center. Lumbres then encouraged others to participate.
This was followed by Mountain Collegian (MC) Staff Armi-Jay R. Paragas who congratulated the winners during the Pagtalinaedan 2026: Northern Luzon Student Press Convention hosted by the College Editors Guild of the Philippines on May 30-31 with the theme โUnite for Life and Sovereignty, Write for the People of the North.โ The winners are:

Office of Student Services Director Erlyn Honeylette Marquez also recognized graduating BSE English Student Nelson F. Padchonga as one of the finalists among 200 nominees nationwide for the Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines by TRAC.
To end the post flag ceremony program, President Laruan highlighted the core value of the month which is service. He reiterated that service does not just mean giving directions, but helping people reach where they need to be. Laruan added that everyday tasks in BSU are chances to serve.

The Flag Raising Ceremony and the short program that follows it usually consisting of announcements, recognition of student and employee achievements, physical exercises, performances and speeches from guests and university officials is a regular activity of BSU that supports and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals specifically , , , , , and . In essence, the activity serves as a regular platform to reinforce values, disseminate information, and celebrate achievements.
