Tantrum vs Meltdown: What’s the difference?🤔💭

Tantrums is usually goal driven — when the child wants something (toy, candy, attention) and stops only when the goal is met.

Meltdown is caused by sensory or emotional overload, not by wanting something specific.

Remember this:

If your child melts down in noisy, busy places... it’s not bad behavior. It’s overload.

Sometimes that means just sitting with them until the storm passes.

Once they feel safe, their brain is ready to learn again.

You can’t teach a dysregulated child. But you can guide a child who feels safe.

Regulate first. Teach second.🩵🦕
