Having a tooth extracted is just the first step—proper aftercare is essential for a smooth recovery and to help prevent complications such as infection or dry socket.

Here are a few important reminders after your tooth extraction:

✅ Bite firmly on the gauze as instructed to help control bleeding.
✅ Rest for the remainder of the day and avoid strenuous activities.
✅ Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to help reduce swelling.
✅ Eat soft, cool foods for the first 24 hours and stay well hydrated.
✅ Avoid using a straw, smoking, spitting forcefully, or vigorous rinsing for at least 24 hours, as these can dislodge the blood clot needed for healing.
✅ Maintain good oral hygiene, but brush gently and avoid the extraction site until advised by your dentist.
✅ Take all prescribed medications exactly as directed.
