Today, August 19, 2026, the Health Education and Promotion Unit of the Salvacion Oppus Yñiguez Memorial Provincial Hospital (SOYMPH) conducted a meaningful health advocacy activity as part of its continuing commitment to health education, disease prevention, and community health promotion.

The activity was held in celebration of Lung Month 2026 and National TB Day, bringing together our hospital leadership, healthcare workers, employees, students, patients, and patient companions at the SOYMPH Hospital Lobby.

With the Lung Month theme:

🌿 “Baga at Kalikasan, Ating Alagaan, Ituloy lang ang Laban”

and the National TB Day message:

🫁 “YES! PILIPINAS CAN : Magpasuri, Magpagamot, at Mag-TPTodo para Protektado”

Today’s advocacy highlighted the importance of healthy lungs, TB prevention, early detection, proper and complete treatment, and TB Preventive Treatment (TPT).

Our heartfelt gratitude to our guest speaker, Mrs. Cherry Vee Dayagbil-Lanugan, RN, Southern Leyte TB Technical Specialist, for sharing her valuable knowledge and expertise with us.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who joined, participated, and supported this important advocacy.

Let us continue to spread awareness, encourage early consultation and testing, and strengthen our commitment to a healthier community and a TB-free Philippines. 💙

📣 MAGPASURI. MAGPAGAMOT. MAG-TPTODO PARA PROTEKTADO!

🫁 Breathe Better. Live Better. END TB!

🚨 𝑫𝑬𝑵𝑮𝑼𝑬 𝑨𝑳𝑬𝑹𝑻: 𝑴𝑨𝑮-𝑨𝑳𝑬𝑹𝑻𝑶, 𝑴𝑨𝑮-𝑨𝑴𝑷𝑰𝑵𝑮! 🦟

🦟 WALAY PUNGAW, WALAY LAMOK!
🏠 Limpyohi kanunay ang palibot ug ayaw tugoti nga adunay magtapok nga tubig.

🤝 Kaisa kita, pabor sa kinabuhi! Sama-sama, iwas dengue na!

Atong panalipdan ang atong kaugalingon, pamilya, ug komunidad batok dengue. 💚

Research collaborators of the study "Development of a PCR Diagnostic Assay for Naja samarensis in the Eastern Visayas, Philippines" from the Visayas State University in the person of Ms. Chinelo M. Cardaño (Project Leader, VSU) and Ms. Mikhaela A. Bargamento (RA), discussed together with Vice Governor Rosa Emilia G. Mercado Emily Mercado, SOYMPH Medical Center Chief, Dr. Ionne Castillones and the members of the Committee on Return Service, on the ways forward for snakebite research and the significant role of SOYMPH in testing this diagnostic assay to provide evidence on snakebite burden and surveillance in the region. This initiative is highly relevant to Southern Leyte and its neighboring communities.

With snakebite envenomation being categorized as a Neglected Tropical Disease, this research is one of the firsts in Eastern Visayas to use molecular diagnostics in addressing the pressing concerns of snake bites such as accurate characterization of clinical features. This study will pave the way to identifying future interventions for better management and more accessible therapeutics.

The project was first initiated by the former VSU President Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin and continually supported by the current President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes through the Advanced Research and Innovation Center and the Eastern Visayas Innovation Center for Health Biotechnology.

The project is led by Dr. Yoshihiro Aoki (Project Leader, Nagasaki University)

Special acknowledgements: Research team members ( Dr. Ea Kristine Clarisse B. Tulin - Study Leader, Dr. Chris Smith, Dr. Patrick Tiglao, Mr. Marvin Jay S. Sarmiento, Mr. Raphael Jimenea. Dr. Ma. Theresa P. Loreto).
