Could cervical cancer mortality become a thing of the past?

That is what researchers observed among women aged 20–24 in England between 2020 and 2024 following the introduction of HPV vaccination.

The research was conducted by Professor Peter Sasieni and Milena Falcaro from Queen Mary University of London and published in The Lancet in 2026.

An earlier study by Falcaro and colleagues, published in The BMJ, found that HPV vaccination at ages 12–13 was associated with:

•⁠ ⁠84% fewer cervical cancer cases
•⁠ ⁠94% fewer serious cervical precancers

This is what cancer prevention can look like.
