What is Gambling Disorder?

Gambling disorder is identified by a pattern of repeated and ongoing betting and wagering that continues despite creating multiple problems in several areas of an individual’s life.

While most people who engage in gambling for recreation and entertainment do so without problems, some people will develop gambling disorder. Individuals in any age group may experience gambling disorder. Those with gambling disorder have trouble controlling their gambling. Individuals, families, and society may be affected by gambling disorder.

Some days we might ask ourselves, Is it worth it? We may feel alone... angry... isolated... or feel just no one seems to care... Life seems so hard... Recovery seems hard too...

This is when we need to slow down and take a look at what's going on in ourselves. We're feeling this way because we might be off our recovery path or spiritual principles. We may be back into wanting people to see things our way, or actually wanting people to do things our way. We want control...

Remember, all problems are not our problems. All work is not our work. We can't have everything the way we want it... But we can do our part and let go of the rest... then we feel better again... remember the times when we let go of things or situations with other people? As the saying goes - "Let go and Let God.

None of us woke up one morning and found we had suddenly turned into an addict. We got to be one by practice... and we practiced often...right?

We ignored our families - we left work or school early - and went drinking and drugging. Daily, we chose chemicals over anything else. Likewise, getting clean and sober is no accident. We use the Steps...we work the program... at meetings, we're reminded to help others.

We all get clean and sober on the installment plan. A day at at time. We got sick one day at a time; we recover one day at a time. 😌🙏

Adults with ADHD have a higher prevalence of substance abuse disorder (15.2%) compared to those without ADHD (5.6%). Between 33% and 44% of young people with ADHD experience alcohol misuse or dependence, research shows. People with ADHD are 5 to 10 times more likely to have alcohol addiction than those without ADHD.

Now that the year 2025 has ended, i will take a few minutes to contemplate the progress i've made and to thank God for my growth... What did i do to contribute to my success last year?

Perhaps its a simple and as profound as daring to come to my first meeting... or to keep coming even when it was hard.

How have i reached out to others last year? How did i treat people... friends and loved ones even at their back? Have i thanked that person for all they've given me and to those who helped me when i needed help? Have i recognized my growing ability to love and trust others? Am i really working on being a pleasant and authentically nice person or am i just projecting and impressing people that i am an awesome person thru Facebook and posts?

Maybe i finally understood a certain issue in my life and really committed myself to working on them and some other issues... Have i accepted and asked help for my character defects? Or maybe i had the faith and courage to make hard decisions... But one thing is for sure... i am discovering that i do play an important part in my own well-being.

Today, i will celebrate my achievements and be grateful for all i have been given... I am not perfect, but i am excellent...

I am grateful for my recovery and all that God has given me last year... I look forward to an even brighter and happier year!
