In celebration of the Gender and Development (GAD) Program, the Department of Health–Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-DATRC) Bukidnon, through its Nursing Section, successfully conducted the “Signs of Hope”, an inclusive drug awareness campaign coupled with the provision of livelihood support for members of the Deaf community last July 16, 2026, at Bukidnon National High School Function Hall, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the Disability Affairs Office (DAO) of Malaybalay City who are committed to promoting health equity and inclusive community development as well. The program commenced with the registration of participants from different members of the Deaf Community within Malaybalay City with special participation of students and teachers from Special Needs Education (SNED) of BNHS, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The activity aimed to address the communication barriers experienced by persons with disabilities, particularly Deaf individuals, by providing accessible drug prevention education through Filipino Sign Language (FSL) interpretation and provision of livelihood support program on selected Deaf individuals.
The highlight of the program was the Drug Awareness Lecture delivered by Dr. Medesse Angelique R. Redera, RMT, which focused on substance abuse prevention, the harmful effects of illegal drugs, and practical ways to maintain healthy lifestyles. To ensure accessibility, Filipino Sign Language interpretation was provided throughout the lecture. Then we witnessed the special presentation by members of the Deaf community of SULADS Deaf literacy Center where they showcased their talents and promoted confidence, inclusion, and community participation. Then followed by the distribution of the small livelihood starter packages to the participants as a means of supporting their economic empowerment. A total of 13 Deaf participants directly benefited from the provision of livelihood support program.

The “Signs of Hope” activity successfully promoted inclusive drug prevention education and strengthened community partnerships while empowering members of the Deaf community through accessible learning opportunities and livelihood support. The activity reflects the commitment of DOH-DATRC Bukidnon to uphold the principles of Gender and Development, health equity, disability inclusion, and community empowerment. Through collaborative efforts, the program contributed to creating a more informed, resilient, and inclusive community where no sector is left behind.

DOH DATRC-Bukidnon Conducts IDADAIT 2026 Poster Making Contest to Promote Drug Abuse Prevention

In celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) 2026, the Department of Health - Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center - Bukidnon (DOH DATRC-Bukidnon) successfully conducted the DOH IDADAIT 2026 Poster Making Contest, bringing together students from participating schools to creatively express this year's advocacy theme, "The evidence is clear: Invest in Prevention, Break the Cycle ."

The activity provided a meaningful platform for students to showcase their creativity while raising awareness on the importance of prevention as the first line of defense against drug abuse and organized crime. Through their artworks, the participants conveyed inspiring messages that promoted informed decision-making, healthy lifestyles, and collective action in building safer, healthier, and drug-free communities.
More than a competition, the Poster Making Contest served as an avenue to engage the youth in meaningful conversations about drug abuse prevention and to encourage them to become advocates of positive change. The activity highlighted the significant role of young people in promoting awareness and fostering a culture of prevention within their schools, families, and communities.

DOH DATRC-Bukidnon extends its heartfelt congratulations to all participants and winners for their remarkable creativity and dedication.
