Make Time to Make Time.

Maybe it’s time to retire the phrase, “I don’t have time", "wala koy time doc", "busy man kaayo ko doc" 😅

Life gets busy. Work piles up. Stress becomes normal. Before we know it, exercise, good sleep, and healthy meals are always “tomorrow.”

The truth is, taking care of our health isn’t taking time away from life. It's investing in having more of it.

Health is wealth. Small choices, made consistently, are often more important than finding extra time.

So, make time to make time. Your future self will thank you. 🌄

Monday Brain Fact 🧠

Stress changes how the brain makes decisions.

When we’re stressed, the brain tends to seek quick relief. That’s why some people find themselves reaching for alcohol, ci******es, drugs, excessive scrolling, gambling, or comfort food. Not because they’re weak, but because the brain is trying to reduce distress.

The encouraging part? The brain can change.

Each time you respond to stress in a healthier way; through exercise, rest, meaningful connection, prayer, or simply taking a pause... you strengthen those pathways.

Your brain is shaped by what you repeatedly practice.

One healthy choice tonight is a good place to start. 💙

🇵🇭 Independence Day

On June 12, 1898, the Philippines declared its independence after centuries of foreign rule.

More than a hundred years later, many Filipinos continue to fight for another kind of freedom—not from a foreign nation, but from addiction, unhealthy habits, and personal struggles.

Science has shown that addiction is not simply a failure of willpower. It affects brain circuits involved in reward, motivation, memory, and self-control. Over time, substances can make it harder to choose what we know is best for ourselves.

In that sense, addiction can take away a person’s freedom to choose.

The good news is that recovery is possible. The brain can heal. With treatment, support, and time, people can regain control of their lives and move toward lasting recovery.

As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let us also remember those who are working every day to reclaim their own freedom—one healthy choice, one day, and one victory at a time.

Happy Independence Day, Philippines. 🇵🇭

"Doc, mahadlok ko ma-rehab. Basin mas madugay ko makagawas.”

A PDL (person deprived of liberty) once shared this concern during an assessment.

It’s a common fear. Many people view rehabilitation as an additional punishment rather than an opportunity for recovery.

So I asked him:

“Naa kay maintenance sa imong high blood?”

“Wala Doc.”

“Kanus-a ka last nagpa-check sa imong sugar?”

“Dugay na Doc.”

“Kumusta imong tulog? Panghunahuna?”

He paused.

What followed was an important realization.

Substance use disorders rarely affect only one aspect of a person’s life. Many individuals struggling with addiction also have untreated medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, infectious diseases, mental health concerns, and strained family relationships.

This is why rehabilitation is not meant to be punishment.

Rehabilitation is TREATMENT.

It is an opportunity to address physical health, mental health, substance use, life skills, relationships, and relapse prevention—all in one structured environment.

No program is perfect, and recovery is never easy. But for many people, rehabilitation provides something they have not had for a long time:

A CHANCE TO HEAL.

A chance to understand the roots of their substance use.

A chance to build a healthier future.

And perhaps most importantly, a chance to reduce the likelihood of returning to the same cycle that led them into trouble in the first place.

Sometimes, freedom is not only about leaving a jail cell.

Sometimes, freedom is being free from addiction.

😊 Happy Monday!

Did you know?

It takes about 10–12 muscles to smile, but around 20–25 muscles to frown. While the exact number varies, frowning generally requires more muscle activity than smiling.

Even more interesting: studies suggest that smiling can activate brain pathways associated with positive emotions, helping reduce stress and improve mood, not just for you, but also for the people around you.
So as we start the week, relax your forehead, lift those cheeks, and share a smile. It costs nothing, but it can make someone’s Monday a little lighter.

🙂 Start the week with a smile. Your brain (and your coworkers) may thank you for it.

ONLINE GAMBLING IN THE PHILIPPINES:
“Just for fun” until it’s not.

🎰 “Paldo” sounds exciting… until losses, debt, and stress start catching up.

Online casinos are now just one click away. Available 24/7 through phones, e-wallets, and social media ads.
And in the Philippines, the numbers are rising fast.

📊 According to PAGCOR and industry reports:

• Around 10 million adult Filipinos are active users of legal e-gambling platforms alone.

• The Philippine gaming industry generated around ₱396 billion in gross gaming revenues in 2025, with online/e-gaming becoming one of the biggest drivers of growth.

• PAGCOR reported that online gambling revenues continued to rise sharply, with e-games and online platforms already overtaking many traditional land-based casinos.

🧠 The concern?
Problem gambling doesn’t only affect finances.

It can also affect:

* mental health
* sleep
* relationships
* work performance
* emotional regulation
* impulse control
* and sometimes lead to debt, secrecy, anxiety, or depression.

PAGCOR itself lists warning signs such as:
✔️ gambling longer than intended
✔️ chasing losses
✔️ borrowing money to gamble
✔️ emotional distress related to gambling

⚠️ Gambling Disorder is a real behavioral health condition.
And like other addictions, early help matters.

If you notice that online gambling is already affecting your daily life, relationships, finances, or mental wellness — seeking professional support is not weakness. It’s prevention.

Not everyone needs to be taught how to say no.
Some people never even consider using.

Because prevention is not just about skills…
it’s about mindset.

🧠 What you believe shapes what you do.

A recent study showed that changing beliefs about substance use
has a stronger impact than teaching refusal skills alone.

👉 Behavior follows belief.

This is why early intervention, mindset work,
and guided conversations matter.

Conducting clinical evaluations for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) with drug-related cases.

In line with Republic Act No. 9165, the response to drug use is not solely punitive.
👉 it also includes proper assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation when indicated.

Aligned with ASAM and ISSUP principles, substance use disorder is a health condition.
Care should remain evidence-based, humane, and patient-centered.

Recovery is possible. Help works. Support matters.
