How many cups of coffee are safe to drink in a day? For some people, up to 5, according to a new scientific statement on caffeine and cardiovascular disease.

Next time you’re wondering if another cup is a good idea, keep these things in mind:

☕There’s no “right” amount of coffee. We all tolerate caffeine differently. Listen to your body about how much you should consume.
☕ Very high amounts of caffeine, such as levels found in energy drinks, may increase risks to the heart. ☕Consuming no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day is not linked to a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.
☕ Drinking regular black coffee without added sugar, cream or flavors may lower risks of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, heart failure and some irregular heart rhythms.
☕ Unfiltered coffees including espresso, French press, Turkish coffee and boiled coffee contain cafestol, a compound associated with higher levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. Cafestol is not present in paper-filtered or instant coffee.

If you or someone you know is living with kidney disease, making the right dietary choices can play an important role in managing the condition.

The DASH Diet is an eating plan designed to support heart health and may also offer benefits for kidney health in some people.
Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all diet for kidney disease. Before making any changes to your eating habits, speak with your doctor or a registered dietitian to determine what's best for your individual needs.
