Cebu Doctorsโ€™ University (CDU) continues to expand its portfolio of protected research outputs as three researchers from the CDU College of Medicine and one researcher from Cebu Doctors University Hospital (CDUH) were officially issued Transfer Certificates of Copyright Registration by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

Facilitated through the , with Dr. Honeylene Paloma and Mr. Christopher Rey Nacua serving as IP Officers, these newly protected works represent high-impact contributions to natural products and drug discovery, clinical diagnostics, and translational health research: Tanco et al., Capili et al., Chua et al., and Zamora et al.

In a continued effort to advance academic innovation and community-responsive healthcare research, the successfully conducted the UNLOCK: Health Innovation Bootcamp, a two-day pre-conference initiative for held on April 28-29, 2026 at CDU Room 416. The program gathered student innovators from various colleges in an intensive innovation-driven environment focused on developing sustainable and impactful healthcare solutions tailored to local community needs.

Designed as a collaborative innovation platform, the bootcamp aimed to strengthen studentsโ€™ competencies in problem identification, design thinking, prototyping, and solution pitching within the context of contemporary healthcare challenges. Through a structured and mentorship-guided approach, participants were encouraged to transform community health concerns into feasible and scalable innovations.

Leading the bootcamp was Mr. Christopher Rey Nacua, Hub Research and Innovation Specialist, together with expert mentors Prof. Jameross Tabiano, RPh, MSc, and Mr. Roberto Tagalog Jr., RRT, MA. Their combined expertise in healthcare, research, and innovation management provided participants with strategic guidance throughout the ideation and pitch development process.

Over the course of the program, four (4) interdisciplinary teams conceptualized and refined solutions that addressed pressing concerns in patient safety, accessibility, health monitoring, and community care. The four (4) featured healthcare innovations developed during the bootcamp included LANTAW, DoSafe, ALAGA, and KalamAI, each representing student-driven approaches to addressing real-world healthcare needs through research and innovation. The teams presented their outputs through a formal pitching competition conducted during the final day of the congress on April 30, 2026 at CDU Room 417.

The pitching session was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges composed of Mr. Rino Dominic Cabungcal, RND, MPH of DOST-7, and Engr. Christian Breth Burgos, MSME, RMEE, RMP of NU-Cebu.

Following the successful implementation, the Hub expressed its intention to institutionalize the UNLOCK: Health Innovation Bootcamp as an annual innovation development program. The initiative aims to further strengthen the culture of research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurial innovation among students while advancing intellectual property generation and commercialization pathways for health-related technologies and solutions. | RRM ๐Ÿฅ€
