Behind Up and Up Therapy Center is a story we've never fully told. Until now 💚

Our co-founder, Kathy, didn't build this center from a business plan. She built it from a mother's love.

After a career in banking, bancassurance, and healthcare, Kathy's world was beautifully reshaped when she and her husband welcomed their miracle son in 2018, who was later diagnosed with autism.

When the pandemic hit, therapy access became almost impossible. But through it all, a trusted Occupational Therapist guided their son through home-based sessions. Kathy watched, day by day, how the right guidance, combined with love and consistency, could unlock a child's potential.

In the middle of that journey, Kathy was diagnosed with cancer. And yet, even in her hardest seasons, her focus never shifted from her son's progress and care.

Today, she is in remission and her once nonverbal son now confidently communicates and continues to thrive 🌟

Up and Up Therapy Center was born from that journey. It exists because Kathy, alongside our senior Occupational and Speech Therapists, refused to let other families walk that road alone.

If you're a parent sitting in uncertainty right now and wondering if things can get better, we want you to know: we are not just a therapy center. We are a team that has lived this alongside you.

We are here. And we are rooting for your child, the same way we have always rooted for ours 💙

May is National Speech Language Hearing Month 💚

We celebrate the incredible work of Speech Language Pathologists. But more than that, we also want to help families understand what speech therapy truly is and is not.

Because sometimes, we hear things like:

🗣️ “Madaldal naman siya.”
🍽️ “Kumakain naman siya at walang issue.”
📋 “Pang-lisp at stuttering lang ang speech therapy.”
📱 “Meron namang YouTube at apps sa phone, pwede na 'yun.”
🧠 “Phase lang 'yan. Hayaan lang, magsasalita din 'yan.”

Here's what speech therapy really does for your child:

One of the most meaningful steps you can take as a parent is securing a PWD ID for your child. This PWD ID can make a big difference - opening doors to discounts, healthcare, education, and legal protections that your child truly deserves.

If you’re raising a child with ADHD, Autism, or other disabilities, this guide is for you. Let’s walk through why this matters, who it’s for, what benefits you can access, and how to get started.

This is for every parent who resides in Manila, has a child with special needs. Whether your child has ADHD, Autism, a physical disability, or a developmental condition, a PWD ID ensures they are recognized and supported under Philippine law.

A PWD ID isn’t just a card for display, it’s a gateway to a better quality of life for your child. Here’s what you can access as a benefit of having a PWD ID:

✅ 20% Discounts: On medicines, medical services, and public transportation

✅ Free Medical Services: Including check-ups, therapy, and rehabilitation in government hospitals

✅ Educational Assistance: Scholarships, discounts on tuition fees, and access to special education programs

✅ Legal Protections: Protection from discrimination and the right to accessible public facilities

The process of getting a PWD ID in Manila is simple, free, and designed to be parent-friendly. Here’s how:

1. For New or Renewal of PWD ID:

✅ Barangay certificate purpose: PWD ID Application
✅ Certificate of Disability signed by Physician with printed name, signature, and the License Number
✅ Three (3) latest 1x1 ID picture, white background only
✅ Latest Voters Certification issued by COMELEC
✅ Photocopy of any Valid ID with Manila Address
✅ Accomplished PWD ID application form

2. For Lost PWD ID:

✅ Accomplished PWD ID application form
✅ Three (3) latest 1x1 ID picture, white background only
✅ Affidavit of loss
✅ Photocopy of booklet or old PWD ID

3. Applicants for inclusion to PWD Allowance (City Ordinance 8565):

✅ Photocopy of valid PWD ID (front and back)
✅ Latest Voters Certification issued by COMELEC (must be 18 years old and above, must be registered and active voter of Manila, and must be a resident of Manila)

Up and Up Therapy Center is grateful to have joined the PCMC Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics Department as it hosted its 3rd Autism Camp today.

As part of our advocacy to collaborate with the community, 22 volunteer OTs and SLPs from Up and Up joined other centers to:
💚 Facilitate and moderate parent learning groups
💚 Guide and play with the children during the camp

We are glad and proud to have fielded the most number of volunteer therapists during the event. Thank you, PCMC, for letting us be part of something bigger than ourselves ❤️
