The 7th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Forum |
Expert Interview: Professor Li Pengfei – Head of Lymphoma Unit, Cancer Center of Southern Medical University

Professor Li Pengfei, Deputy Chief Physician and Head of the Lymphoma Unit at the Cancer Center of Southern Medical University, pointed out at the 7th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Forum that immunotherapy has become a new frontier in the treatment of hematological malignancies. When strategically combined with conventional therapies, it holds promise for further improving treatment outcomes. However, Professor Li emphasized that individualized treatment plans should be developed based on each patient's specific condition.

He stressed that cancer patients know no borders, and doctors around the world should work together to seek treatment regimens with better efficacy and fewer side effects. He also expressed hope for deeper clinical and research collaboration between China and Indonesia.

【A Letter of Gratitude from Mongolia | Across Thousands of Miles, Trust Blossoms Through Care Like Family】

“From the day we arrived at the hospital, we felt as if we were back home. Being able to communicate smoothly with doctors in our own language allowed us to feel at ease throughout this one-month journey…”

This heartfelt message came from Mr. E**, a 68-year-old patient from Mongolia, expressing his sincere gratitude to our hospital.

Mr. E** traveled across borders to seek treatment at our hospital after being diagnosed with right lung adenocarcinoma. Facing advanced age, a serious illness, and differences in language and culture, he initially felt uncertain and anxious.

To address his needs, our one-stop value-added service team provided continuous support throughout his medical journey. A Mongolian-speaking interpreter accompanied him during interventional treatment and medical examinations, ensuring smooth communication at every step. Meanwhile, the nursing team from Ward 2 provided attentive care and assistance with his daily needs.

Beyond medical care, the hospital also invited Mr. E** and other Mongolian patients to celebrate the traditional Mongolian festival Naadam, presenting them with khatas (traditional ceremonial scarves) and heartfelt blessings. Through respect for their culture and genuine warmth, we hope to ease the worries of patients seeking treatment far from home.

With the dedicated treatment and care from our medical team, Mr. E**’s condition has improved. He is currently in good physical condition, full of energy, and his coughing symptoms have significantly decreased.

At Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, we have always embraced the philosophy of “Healing Health”, combining professional medical expertise with compassionate care. We are committed to helping every international patient who travels from afar feels safe, supported, and at home throughout their healing journey.

Radioactive Seed Implantation Empowers Precision Treatment for Complex Tumors
—The 7th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Forum | Expert Interview Series

Professor Zhang Fujun, Director of the Belt and Road International Training Base of the Chinese Anti‑Cancer Association, introduced that minimally invasive treatments such as radioactive seed implantation, microwave ablation, and radiofrequency ablation offer new therapeutic options for patients with intermediate and advanced cancer, effectively prolonging survival and improving quality of life.

As a co‑establishing partner of the Chinese Anti‑Cancer Association’s Belt and Road international training initiative, Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou actively promotes the dissemination and application of the C**A guidelines in Southeast Asia through two major channels: Personnel exchange and international clinical services. Developed based on Asian population data, these guidelines are better tailored to the needs of patients in the region, and have played a positive role in facilitating mutual learning in cancer prevention and control as well as enhancing regional treatment standards.

【Trust That Crosses Borders|the Choice of Thousands of Filipino Families】

Since 2010, we have been receiving patients from the Philippines. Over these sixteen years1⃣6⃣, that trust has only grown—more and more Filipino families🇵🇭 have chosen to entrust their cancer journey to us.

❓Why do Filipino patients travel across the seas to Guangzhou?

Because we offer stage‑based, personalized treatment strategies:
🔹For early‑stage patients: We prioritize surgery, aiming for the best possible curative outcome.
🔹For mid‑ to advanced‑stage patients: We avoid open surgery, which can greatly damage the immune system. Instead, we use minimally invasive treatments such as interventional therapy, cryoablation, microwave ablation, and nanoknife—resulting in less trauma and better tolerance.
🔹For late‑stage patients: We strive to prolong survival while improving quality of life, making every moment more meaningful.

Beyond that, we have a strong multidisciplinary team👨‍⚕👩‍⚕—integrating internal medicine, surgery, radiology, TCM, and laboratory services. In addition to conventional options like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, we also offer immunotherapy, targeted therapy, minimally invasive techniques, hyperthermia, and other supportive treatments.

The 7th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Medical Forum |
Expert Interview: Yin Pingshan – Distinguished Specialist in Integrative Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology, Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou

Professor Yin Pingshan, Distinguished Expert in Integrative Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, pointed out at the 7th ASEAN International Integrated Oncology Medical Forum that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in cancer treatment should emphasize the organic integration of syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation, and leverage modern high-tech approaches to extend toward meso-level and micro-level differentiation. Additionally, Professor Yin proposed that more in-depth academic exchanges should be conducted in the areas of "specific diseases, specific symptoms, and specific formulas."

As a co-established unit of the "Belt and Road" International Training Program, Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou is actively building a platform for oncology medical exchange between China and Indonesia, promoting the integration of TCM and Western medicine as well as regional medical resource collaboration.
