Precision in healthcare is not optional. It is built, protected, and scaled by medical coders who work with discipline, intent, and a deep sense of responsibility.
This month, we recognize Marvin Agullana, Medical Coding Manager at Amazon, as our Coder of the Month for April 2026.
With over 11 years of experience and credentials including CPC-I, CPMA, CPB, and CPC, Marvin brings both clinical perspective and coding expertise to his work. He started his career as a nurse, where attention to detail and patient care was critical, and carried that same mindset into medical coding, auditing, and eventually leadership roles across multiple organizations.
Before his current role, Marvin led teams across different areas of revenue cycle operations, including denials management, revenue integrity, and DRG validation. These experiences shaped his ability to look beyond codes and understand how documentation connects to real patient outcomes, compliance, and financial accuracy.
In his first year in his current role, Marvin helped his team achieve over 99% accuracy while improving productivity. Just as importantly, he focused on building ways of working that make this level of performance consistent and repeatable. One example is a centralized knowledge system he introduced, making it easier for coders to find what they need when they need it. What once took time and effort became simpler and faster, saving hundreds of hours and reducing daily friction for the team. He also created a more structured path for new team members to grow, helping them move from onboarding to strong performance with clarity and confidence.
What stands out most is how he approaches leadership. Marvin invests in people. He coaches, shares knowledge openly, and creates an environment where team members feel trusted to take ownership of their work. Over time, that trust builds a team that is both capable and accountable.
Working within a culture that values ownership, continuous improvement, and high standards, he continues to look for better ways of doing things. Whether through improving workflows or exploring new tools and automation, he encourages his team to stay adaptable and forward-looking as healthcare continues to evolve.
Being named Coder of the Month is not just about strong results. It reflects consistency, thoughtful leadership, and the ability to make work better not just for yourself but also for others. Marvin represents that well.
Congratulations, Marvin. ๐
