The MSU Main - Department of Medical Services and Hospital, widely known as the University Infirmary, was established in 1962 in accordance with Articles 124, 138, 139, and 139-1 of the Mindanao State University Code. From its initial five (5)-bed capacity, the facility has expanded into a thirty (30)-bed capacity hospital. It currently serves more than twenty-four thousand (24,000) students, facu
lty, staff, and their dependents, as well as residents from the seven (7) barangays within the 1,000-hectare MSU reservation, including the general public. Originally mandated under Article 141 of the University Code, the Infirmary was tasked to deliver medical, dental, and other health services to the university community, while also fostering strong linkages and maintaining good public relations with government and allied agencies. In 1966, a Dispensary Unit was established at the MSU Infirmary through BOR Resolution No. 256 to address the challenges in accessing essential medicines and medical and dental supplies, which were costly and limited in Marawi City at that time. By 1970, the University Infirmary underwent restructuring, expanding its capacity from five (5) to ten (10) beds and increasing its workforce from thirty-two (32) to forty-six (46) regular plantilla personnel, with four (4) positions later phased out due to optional retirement. It was subsequently renamed as the Department of Medical Services and Hospital, composed of the following service sections:
