: In Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries, dragon fruit is often included in hospital meals, especially for patients recovering from illnesses such as cancer.

Studies cited by the National Cancer Institute suggest that lycopene, a natural antioxidant found in red dragon fruit, may have chemopreventive properties against certain cancers, including prostate, breast, lung, liver, and skin cancer.

"FERNING": Microscopic appearance of vaginal secretion during ovulation

The striking fern-like structures seen under the microscope are not plants or crystals from the environment. They are microscopic patterns formed by dried cervical mucus, a normal component of vaginal and cervical secretions. This phenomenon, known as ferning, occurs when cervical mucus dries on a microscope slide and salts within the mucus crystallize into branching patterns that resemble fern leaves or frost on glass.

In Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, ferning is recognized as a useful indicator of hormonal changes, particularly around ovulation. Elevated estrogen levels increase the water and electrolyte content of cervical mucus, allowing these characteristic fern-like crystallization patterns to form when the mucus dries. Doctors have historically used the "fern test" to help assess ovulation and fertility.

Beyond its beautiful appearance, cervical mucus serves several important biological functions. It acts as a protective barrier against pathogens, supports beneficial bacteria, and helps guide s***m through the reproductive tract during the fertile window. Scientists often describe it as a natural "gatekeeper" that helps regulate what enters and exits the reproductive system.

The microscopic image demonstrates that many normal biological substances can display surprisingly intricate and artistic patterns when viewed at high magnification, revealing a hidden world of structure and organization within the human body.
