Sometimes, being able to tuck in your shirt is already a milestone. ❤️

My patient with ovarian cancer previously underwent chemotherapy with another doctor but was unfortunately lost to follow-up. When she came to me, she had massive ascites—so much fluid in her abdomen that we needed to insert a pigtail catheter for drainage. We restarted her cancer treatment while managing the ascites.

Today, the pigtail is OUT. 🙌 She has minimal to no side effects from chemotherapy, is in high spirits, and look at her now—wearing regular-sized pants and TUCKING IN HER SHIRT. 😊

For most of us, putting on our usual pants and casually tucking in a shirt is something we hardly think about. But for someone who has lived with a tummy severely distended by ascites, being able to tuck in that shirt again can feel like getting a little piece of normal life back.

In cancer treatment, victories don't always come in the form of scan results or tumor markers.

Sometimes, the victory is simply being able to tuck in your shirt again. ❤️

After years of a stormy treatment journey for intestinal cancer, my patient’s latest scans now show NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE. 🙏

The road was far from smooth. There were complications, difficult treatments, and scans that sometimes showed new and worrying findings. There were moments when it would have been easy to feel discouraged.

But we kept going.

Cancer treatment is rarely a straight line. A setback does not always mean the end of the road. A difficult scan does not mean we stop trying. We reassess, adjust the plan, treat what we can, and move forward.

Today, after years of persistence, we finally get to say: No evidence of disease.

Persistence is key.

One difficult chapter does not determine how the story ends. 💚

Another chemotherapy graduation! 🎓💚

This is Dr. Wynn's patient, and I had the privilege of guiding Dr. Wynn in managing her treatment. I’m happy to have played a supporting role in her cancer journey. ❤️

What really stands out in this photo is the immense family support surrounding her. They showed up—not just for this milestone, but throughout her treatment.

Cancer may happen to one person, but often an entire family goes through the journey with them. Having this kind of support can make such a difference.❤️

So happy for my patient! 💚

After going through chemotherapy → chemoradiotherapy → surgery, the final pathology showed pCR — pathologic complete response. 🙏

What is pCR?
It means that when the surgically removed tissue was examined under the microscope, no viable cancer cells were found in the re**um or lymph nodes — ypT0N0.

For patients with re**al cancer, achieving pCR is an excellent prognostic sign and is associated with a lower risk of recurrence and better long-term outcomes.

But an important reminder: not everyone will achieve a pCR — and that does not mean the treatment failed. Many patients who still have residual cancer after surgery can still have very good outcomes and may still be cured. Response to treatment varies from patient to patient.

So if your pathology does not say pCR, please don't be discouraged. pCR is something wonderful to celebrate when it happens, but it is not the only measure of successful cancer treatment.

For my patient, today we celebrate this beautiful milestone:
Treatment → surgery → no viable cancer found. 💚🙏

And as always, we continue with proper follow-up and surveillance.

TEACH ONE. TRAIN ONE. 🩺💉

Today’s lesson: accessing a chest port using sterile technique.

For many cancer patients who need repeated chemotherapy, blood extraction, hydration, or IV medications, a chest port provides reliable venous access while reducing repeated needle sticks and irritation of peripheral veins.

But having a port also means knowing how to care for it properly.

Accessing a port requires strict aseptic/sterile technique—proper hand hygiene, skin antisepsis, sterile gloves and equipment, and careful handling of the access site. These steps are essential because a port connects directly to the bloodstream, and infection can become serious very quickly.

Teaching the next generation is part of patient care, too.

Treat every patient as if they were family. 💚

After caring for him for so many years, I sometimes feel less like his oncologist and more like a daughter. 😊 We’ve been through years of treatment together—the good days, the difficult ones, and everything in between.

And today, I’m so happy to say: he has finally completed his YEARS of treatment—and his PET scan is CLEAR! 🙏✨

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting and working for! Now we pray that the cancer stays away for good. 🙏

Celebrating this milestone with him and his beautiful family, and joining them in one big prayer: May it never come back.
