Bicol Medical Center confirms that a multidisciplinary surgical team performed an 8-hour operation to reattach the severed hand of a police officer injured while responding to an incident in San Jose, Camarines Sur.

The highly complex procedure required the coordinated expertise of BMC’s surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other specialists.

The patient remains under close observation and may require further procedures. At this time, the medical team remains focused on his recovery and providing the best possible care.

We ask the public to respect the patient’s privacy and join us in praying for his continued recovery.

𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | The Bicol Medical Center - Regional Orthopaedic Center, in partnership with AOTrauma Philippines, conducted the 𝗔𝗢 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗻-𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 on August 1, 2026, at the BMC Auditorium.

For over six decades, the AO Foundation has been at the forefront of trauma education worldwide. Beyond surgical techniques and implants, however, quality orthopedic trauma care depends on a well-coordinated and skilled operating room team. It is through the seamless collaboration of surgeons, nurses, and other OR personnel that safe, efficient, and patient-centered care is achieved.

The training featured focused lectures, clinical discussions, and hands-on workshops covering essential orthopedic trauma principles, fracture fixation techniques, surgical instruments, positioning and draping, and other key aspects of OR practice.
