The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA), together with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), consolidated the criteria for the selection of the Best Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).

The criteria will be used to look at how local OSCA offices carry out their responsibilities and serve senior citizens in their communities. These include the implementation of programs and activities, delivery of services, proper documentation, coordination with other offices and organizations, and the involvement of senior citizens in local programs.

The assessment also looks at how OSCA offices respond to the needs of senior citizens and support their welfare, rights, and participation in the community.

Through this initiative, POSCA and NCSC aim to recognize OSCA offices that continue to provide active and responsive service to senior citizens.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) joined the Municipality of Tukuran in the conduct of a Deaf Awareness and Basic Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Orientation in celebration of the 48th National Disability Rights Week.

The activity provided participants with a better understanding of the Deaf community and introduced them to basic Filipino Sign Language that can be used in everyday interactions.

The orientation was facilitated by PPDAO personnel Paul Tindoc and Marichu Navalez, one of the office’s Deaf staff members. Through demonstrations and discussions, participants learned common signs and gained insight into the communication challenges that Deaf individuals may experience.

Accessible communication remains an important part of ensuring that services reach everyone, including senior citizens who are Deaf. Whether during meetings, community activities, or the delivery of programs and services, the ability to communicate helps ensure that older persons are heard, understood, and able to participate.

Through activities such as these, community leaders are better equipped to assist Deaf individuals in their respective barangays and help create communities where no one is left behind because of communication barriers.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) joined the Municipality of San Pablo in its β€œCapability Building and Skills Enhancement” activity held in line with the celebration of the 48th National Disability Rights Week.

The activity highlighted the importance of leadership and community involvement, reminding participants that individuals can continue to serve and make a difference regardless of age or disability. It also underscored the value of understanding one’s rights and responsibilities as members of the community.

Administrative Assistant Princess Judy Ann Neri of the Provincial Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PPDAO) served as resource person and discussed leadership and the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities (Republic Act No. 7277), giving participants a better understanding of the law and the protections it provides.

Many senior citizens continue to take on leadership roles in their organizations and communities. Activities such as these provide opportunities to learn, share experiences, and remain actively involved in matters that affect their lives.

The Provincial OSCA commends the Municipality of San Pablo for supporting programs that encourage continued learning and community participation among all sectors.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) joined the 48th National Disability Rights Week celebration hosted by the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Region IX. Held at the regional office in Balintawak, Pagadian City, the activity brought together government agencies, organizations, and community stakeholders in support of disability rights and inclusive development.

This year’s observance is guided by Proclamation No. 597, series of 2024, which recognizes persons with disabilities as members of society entitled to equal opportunities and full participation in community life.

The activity also served as a reminder that many senior citizens live with disabilities and continue to face challenges in their daily lives. Knowing their rights helps them access services, seek assistance when needed, and continue participating in activities within their communities.

Many senior citizens with disabilities have spent years overcoming barriers while supporting their families and communities. Their experiences continue to inspire younger generations and remind us that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of age or disability.

Through this, the Provincial OSCA remains committed to supporting programs and activities that promote the welfare, participation, and well-being of senior citizens throughout the province.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) joins the observance of National Disability Rights Week in recognizing the rights, dignity, and contributions of persons with disabilities.

This observance reminds us that an inclusive society is one where every person is given the opportunity to participate, contribute, and access services without barriers. For senior citizens with disabilities, inclusion means having access to programs, services, and support that allow them to remain active members of their families and communities.

As we observe National Disability Rights Week, let us continue to promote understanding, respect, and equal opportunities for all. By creating communities that recognize and respond to the different needs of people, we help ensure that no one is left behind.

Today, the Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) join the observance of National CPR Day, a reminder of the importance of being prepared to respond during medical emergencies.

For senior citizens, timely assistance during emergencies can make a significant difference. Awareness of life-saving skills such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) helps promote safer homes, communities, and support systems for older persons.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) recognizes the value of health awareness and emergency preparedness in protecting the welfare of senior citizens. Through continued awareness and education, we can help build communities that are better prepared to care for and support older persons when they need it most.

The Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) joins in recognizing the LGBTQIA+ community and its continuing efforts to promote understanding, respect, and inclusion in society.

This occasion also reminds us that many senior citizens come from different backgrounds and life experiences, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community who have contributed to their families, workplaces, and communities throughout the years. Like all older persons, they deserve to age with dignity, respect, and equal access to programs, services, and opportunities.

Recognizing diversity among senior citizens helps strengthen a more inclusive community where every older person feels valued and respected. Through continued awareness and understanding, we can help create spaces where all senior citizens are welcomed, heard, and supported.

As we celebrate diversity and inclusion, POSCA remains committed to promoting the welfare, rights, and well-being of all senior citizens in the province.

Students from J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) visited the Provincial Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) to present their senior citizen database system as part of their research study.

The system aims to assist the municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur in managing and organizing senior citizen records. It is designed to support accurate documentation, efficient reporting, and the organization of programs and services for senior citizens. POSCA In-Charge Miriam Acosta-Llanos and the staff shared relevant information and provided recommendations to further improve the system.

The consultation also gave the students a deeper understanding of senior citizen programs, services, and records management, helping ensure that the database system reflects both the office's requirements and the needs of the senior citizens it is intended to serve.
