LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY, or commonly Lap Chole, is a minimally invasive surgery to remove the gallbladder to address problems caused by gallstones (colic or pain, nausea, jaundice or infection) which uses ‘keyhole’ incisions, specialized equipment (laparoscope, light source, insufflator) and specialized surgical tools for lower post-operative pain, quicker recovery and better cosmetic results than traditional open surgery.

Features:
1. Minimally Invasive: Surgery involves keyhole incisions (sub-centimeter cuts) in the abdomen, instead of one large one, to perform .

2. Gallbladder Removal: The gallbladder, which stores bile, is carefully detached and removed through one of the ports.

3. Standard Procedure: It is the preferred method for treating symptomatic gallstones, gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), and polyps.

4. Purpose: To relieve symptoms caused by the presence of gallstones and their complications (like severe abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, and jaundice).

5. Complications of gallstones: Infections, inflammation, or blockages in the gallbladder or bile ducts.

6. Benefits:
Less pain and scarring.
Faster recovery and shorter hospital stays.
Lower risk of infection compared to open surgery.

7. Recovery: Most people return to normal activities within a week and strenuous activity within a few weeks. Mild pain, and sometimes temporary diarrhea, are effectively managed with medication and dietary adjustment. Recovery is expected to be complete in almost every case.
