Family planning is not simply about “ayaw pang magkaanak.”

It’s about having the information and options you need to decide if and when you want to become pregnant, how you want to space pregnancies, and which contraceptive method is appropriate for your health and lifestyle.

There is no single “best” family planning method for every woman. Options can include pills, injectables, implants, IUDs, condoms and fertility-awareness methods. Each differs in effectiveness, duration, possible side effects, convenience, and whether it also offers protection against sexually transmitted infections.

Some hormonal contraceptives may also be prescribed for reasons beyond contraception, such as helping manage certain menstrual or hormone-related concerns. But the right choice depends on your medical history, medications, blood pressure, reproductive plans and personal preferences—so what works well for a friend may not necessarily be the best option for you.

And one common concern deserves clarification: using contraception does not generally cause permanent infertility. For reversible methods, fertility typically returns after stopping, although the timing can vary depending on the method and the individual.

Many couples rely on withdrawal (pulling out before ej*******on) as a form of contraception. While it may reduce the chance of pregnancy, it is not fully reliable. Research shows that about 22 out of 100 couples who use withdrawal alone will experience an accidental pregnancy.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰:

✔️Withdrawal does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
✔️Pre-ejaculate fluid can contain s***m, which can lead to pregnancy even if withdrawal is done perfectly.

For more effective prevention, consider additional contraception methods like condoms, birth control pills, or IUDs. Using withdrawal alone is risky if you're avoiding pregnancy.

PMOS stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — the new name for what many of us have known for years as PCOS. And this isn't simply a change in terminology.

The previous name placed a lot of attention on “polycystic ovaries.” But PMOS is a complex condition involving hormones, metabolism, reproductive health and other parts of a woman's overall health. In fact, having ovarian cysts isn't required to have PMOS.

You may want to talk to your OB-GYN if you're experiencing symptoms such as irregular or missed periods, persistent acne, increased facial or body hair, thinning scalp hair, difficulty becoming pregnant, or other changes that concern you. These symptoms can have many causes, so having them doesn't automatically mean you have PMOS. Proper medical assessment matters.

PMOS may also be associated with metabolic concerns such as insulin resistance and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, which is one reason women's health care shouldn't focus only on menstruation or fertility.
