The departmental rounds provided a valuable opportunity to evaluate workflows, reinforce adherence to hospital standards and patient safety practices, and ensure that quality healthcare is consistently delivered across all service areas.

Provincial Governor Elias Bulut Jr., Pudtol Mayor Edmar Pascua, and AJDH Chief Mary Elisa Galleon received the first tranche (half) of the total fund grant worth P20M, which the facility intends to use to complete the ongoing construction of its new building, among other improvements.

The turnover ceremony was a platform for Dr. Galleon to present the hospital’s accomplishments, issues, and concerns, highlighting their active role in assisting the operations of two of the province’s Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services (BUCAS) Centers - Mataguisi located in Pudtol and Kasaranay in Luna, even back when these were still known as extension clinics.

RD Pangilinan emphasized that such funding was championed by Apayao Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang. She praised the cooperation between the Apayao Provincial LGU, Pudtol LGU, and AJDH management and staff, enabling the hospital to cater to more patients than its approved 18-bed capacity especially in recent years. “It’s high time for AJDH to be upgraded to a Level I Hospital,” she encouraged.

Noting the participatory nature of health planning and service delivery, Governor Bulut Jr. pledged the LGU’s continued support towards health programs and facilities in Apayao, citing the provincial mobile healthcare initiative Project Butzy as a way to improve health outcomes in the province.

This sentiment was shared by Mayor Pascua, who announced that their intensified implementation of the zero open defecation (ZOD) program was able to significantly reduce the practice of open defecation in their municipality. This was achieved in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program beneficiaries and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) trainees.
