CRSH Health Corner | Know Your Numbers, Protect Your Heart ❤️

A blood pressure reading is only as accurate as the way it is measured. Before checking your blood pressure, remember these simple steps:

✅ Rest for at least 5 minutes.
✅ Avoid coffee, tea, smoking, or exercise for 30 minutes before the reading.
✅ Sit comfortably with your back supported, feet flat on the floor, and legs uncrossed.
✅ Keep your arm supported at heart level.
✅ Stay quiet during the measurement.
✅ Use the correct cuff size for accurate results.

💙 Early detection saves lives. Regular blood pressure monitoring helps prevent heart disease, stroke, and kidney complications.

Know your numbers. Control your pressure. Protect your future.

High blood pressure - or hypertension - often shows no warning signs, yet it increases the risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, dementia, and other complications.

A simple blood pressure check can be life-saving.

Getting your blood pressure measured the right way helps ensure accurate results.
Incorrect positions can lead to incorrect readings.

✔ Sit with your back supported
✔ Legs uncrossed and feet flat on the floor
✔ Arm supported with the cuff at heart level
✔ Use correct cuff size
✔ Rest for at least 5 minutes before the reading
✔ Do not talk during or between measurements
✔ Avoid exercise, tea/coffee, and smoking for at least 30 minutes before reading

Small steps can make a big difference in protecting your health.

CRSH Health Corner | Know the Signs of Anemia 🩸

Anemia occurs when your body does not have enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to carry adequate oxygen to your tissues. It can affect anyone and, if left untreated, may lead to serious health problems.

⚠️ Common signs and symptoms of anemia include:
🧊 Cold hands and feet
😴 Tiredness and weakness
💫 Dizziness or lightheadedness
🤕 Frequent headaches

🥗 Help prevent anemia by:
• Eating iron-rich foods such as lean meat, liver, fish, beans, dark green leafy vegetables, and iron-fortified cereals.
• Consuming foods rich in vitamin C to improve iron absorption.
• Taking iron supplements only as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

🩺 If you experience these symptoms, consult your healthcare provider. A simple blood test can check your hemoglobin level and help determine the appropriate treatment.

Early detection and proper treatment can help you regain your energy and improve your overall health.

Common symptoms of anaemia include:

🥱 Tiredness
😵‍ Dizziness or feeling light-headed
❄️ Cold hands and feet
😖 Headache
🫁 Shortness of breath, especially upon exertion
🫀 Irregular heartbeat

If you experience any of these symptoms without any apparent reason, you may have anaemia. Consult your doctor for advice.

CRSH Health Corner | Coffee and Heart Health ☕

Good news for coffee lovers! For most healthy adults, moderate coffee consumption—about 1 to 5 cups per day (up to 400 mg of caffeine daily)—is generally considered safe and may even provide cardiovascular health benefits for some people.

☕ Drink coffee wisely:
✅ Limit caffeine intake to 400 mg per day (about 3–5 cups of brewed coffee, depending on strength).
✅ Avoid adding excessive sugar, syrups, or high-fat creamers.
✅ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
✅ If coffee causes palpitations, anxiety, or difficulty sleeping, reduce your intake and consult your healthcare provider.

⚠️ Special Reminder:
Pregnant women, individuals with certain heart conditions, uncontrolled hypertension, or caffeine sensitivity should consult their healthcare provider about the appropriate amount of caffeine for them.

💙 Moderation is key. A balanced lifestyle—including healthy eating, regular physical activity, quality sleep, and routine health check-ups—remains the best recipe for a healthy heart.

How many cups of coffee are safe to drink in a day? For some people, up to 5, according to a new scientific statement on caffeine and cardiovascular disease.

Next time you’re wondering if another cup is a good idea, keep these things in mind:

☕There’s no “right” amount of coffee. We all tolerate caffeine differently. Listen to your body about how much you should consume.
☕ Very high amounts of caffeine, such as levels found in energy drinks, may increase risks to the heart. ☕Consuming no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day is not linked to a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.
☕ Drinking regular black coffee without added sugar, cream or flavors may lower risks of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, heart failure and some irregular heart rhythms.
☕ Unfiltered coffees including espresso, French press, Turkish coffee and boiled coffee contain cafestol, a compound associated with higher levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol. Cafestol is not present in paper-filtered or instant coffee.
