Zamboanga Peninsula Medical Center, Inc. (ZPMC) Nursing Services personnel gathered on June 3, 2026, for the Post-Anesthesia Care Lecture, an insightful seminar focused on elevating patient safety. Led by Dr. Said Hasan, an anesthesiologist, the lecture zeroed in on the critical, specialized world of Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU), focusing on the twin pillars of recognizing postoperative complications quickly and ensuring a smooth, safe recovery process.
Throughout the presentation, Dr. Hasan provided a comprehensive roadmap of PACU operations, detailing everything from historical evolution to physical layout, equipment requirements, and ideal nurse-to-patient staffing ratios. The attending ZPMC nursing staff reviewed standard clinical protocols, including the vital structured admission handoff from the anesthesia team, primary assessments of airway, breathing, and circulation, fluid balance, and thermoregulation.
A vital segment of the seminar was dedicated to clinical emergencies, training staff on the rapid management of common postoperative complications such as respiratory distress, cardiovascular instability, postoperative nausea and vomiting, and emergence delirium. The session concluded with a detailed look at advanced pain scale tools for multimodal pain management and a strict review of discharge readiness protocols using the Aldrete score.
By hosting specialized educational sessions like this recovery seminar, ZPMC actively demonstrates its enduring commitment to the continuous learning and professional development of its medical staff. The institution continues to invest heavily in upskilling its frontline healthcare teams, ensuring that the entire organization remains at the forefront of clinical excellence and patient-centered care in the region.
